Machuca

(1/1)

Tree:
"Machuca" is a Chilean film about the time period in Chile just before and after the U.S.-backed Military Strike and Coup in 1973.  The perspective is that of a poor child (Machuca) who is part of a social program that brings impoverished children to study in a wealthy private school.  It examines the issues of economic and social classes as well as politics, all told from the playful and curious perspective of the children caught up in the political turmoil.  This movie is very touching and has really helped me gain a perspective of the experiences of the people living here during that time period.  I cried for 2 hours after I saw it...with no English subtitles and I had only just begun to study Spanish...  Find it on DVD with subtitles and dont forget the tissues!

I agree, Tree.  I gave it four stars out of five just because I believe there are no five stars movies.  A must see.
