I made an interesting observation recently with pipe breathing.

Last week I had a bout of flu, nothing dramatic, just one day off work and the weekend lazying around. A little bit of a runny nose and most of all, a nasty but barely productive cough. This cough was coming and going in fits. I would be ok for hours, but if I coughed just a few times, I would continue to do so for quite a while, like a self-feeding process. Needless to say I skipped the EE program, but did pipe breathing and the POTS.

One evening I had another of these coughing fits and I decided to do the pipe breathing ... and lo, and behold! - the coughing fit stopped almost instantly! I have tried that now on a number of occasions, also at work, and it seems to work consistently ... like fast-acting codeine.

Has anyone else had the same experience? If not, I am sure there might be enough "test subjects" to give this a try!
Let me know how you go!

I've not tried pipe breathing for coughing, but I have found out that it stops the hiccups.  :)  I figured I'd try it once since I had heard that a hiccup is a spasm of the diaphragm.  And since the vagus nerve goes to the diaphragm, I figured I'd give it a try - and it worked.

Last year I had a terrible toothache for several days. Painkillers did not help. Then I started pipe breathing.I did that for some fifteen minutes and already started to think that I have to take another medicine for pain, but I fell asleep. I woke up after a short time (maybe some 15-20 minutes) without any pain. It was like a miracle after a few days of nasty pain. Vagus nerve is a true healer  :)

It also works for headaches. I've used it on many occasions and after a dozen or so of pipe breathes the head pain just disappears.   ;)

I think from this incident I need to learn to be more careful about my body, by not being seated for long periods of time. Sitting in front of the computer for long periods (which makes up a large bulk of my day) makes me lose a lot of sensation in my body. I'm also planning doing more stretches and simple yoga to hopefully boost circulation. Also adding in some bodyweight exercises.

Beetlemaniac,

Have you ever tried to work on a table that is high enough to do the work standing (I am not sure what the technical term in English is)?
This way you won't have the orthostatic problems you describe after sitting for a prolonged period of time. Of course it takes some getting used to, I guess. You could alternate that with sitting (if you have a laptop that is ...  :-[)

Hey nickelbleu, I have indeed tried the standing desk thing after reading the SoTT article. I eventually got lazy and stopped doing it.  :-[ I did like the feeling of it, compared to the static-ness of being seated for long periods. Sadly my feet and legs tended to give way after a while. Just too used to sitting around all the time. Thanks for the reminder, maybe I will try it again and see. I didn't have a real standing desk, instead I piled some boxes on top of my printer and put the laptop over them. Looks ugly but it does the job.

This week, whilst doing three-stage pipe breathing and PotS on Monday and Thursday, besides the usual yawning and wet-eyes – which transferred into tears during the three-stage pipe breathing – I had huge sensations of sadness and unhappiness, and for both of the PotS sessions I zoned out all the way through, to the end of the music.

Update on my experiences with the EE program.

Pipe breathing/PotS were being done before bed every night; Full program on once a week now (rotating between Mondays and Thursday, depending on the day). I had my usual yawning (during the pipe breathing) and only zoned out during the later part of warrior's breath and comes back in the middle of PotS. In the last few weeks, I experienced an amount of sadness, almost to the point of depression. Just not sure about what, though...

I read something in another topic and it raised a question.

If things are moving too fast, dreams, emotions etc... Then it is recomended to cut out the round breathing and just do the slow breathing, meditation and prayer.

That sentence confused me, isn't reciting the prayer the meditation? Are the meditation and prayer seperate? is there something I am missing?

I have notice these things pick up and would like to slow them down.

(I do the full prorgram once a week following the online video)

The prayer and the meditation aren't considered separate parts of the program -- if you're beginning with the 3-stage (pipe) breathing, and then moving straight to the prayer, that should be the correct way to slow things down in the way you're indicating.

Hi Menna, as far as I understand it, they are one and the same. Some people may refer to the last part of the EE program as the "prayer" part or the "meditation" part, but mostly they're really referring to the same thing. The prayer acts as a seed during the meditation part, which has many benefits, one which is that it helps the mind with having something to focus on during the meditation, rather than it being void or occupied with many thoughts.

Interestingly enough (or not), I sometimes do the prayer as a separate event, just to connect with DCM, outside of practicing EE.  Long before EE came along, I had started performing saying the Lord's Prayer before bed.  So when the PotS was shared with the forum, I decided to adopt it instead. So, on nights when I am too tired for a full meditation, or whenever I feel inspied throughout the day, I just do the prayer.

Gonzo - I wanted to do that same thing as you. Perform EE and leave the prayer for right before bed. I printed out the prayer and read it three times each night for about a week and a half. I had to stop because I was waking up earlier then fit my schedual. I had a hard time falling back asleep and my dreams were very vivid to the point where they woke me up.

Now I perform EE with the prayer included about a hour or two before bed once a week... Will now scale back and cut out the BA...HA part

Thanks for the info

A couple of things. I've been getting these popping and grinding noises in my head during three-stage and beatha. The weird thing is I can find of feel them. They aren't worrying me, I was just wondering if anyone's experienced anything similar. Also, I've just read the section of the second Wave book that deals with spirit attachments. I was wondering if EE can be used a tool to get rid of these critters, if they do actually exist.

Since attachments occured through some kind of invitation on our part, and that through EE we can arrive at a greater understanding of ourselves on many levels, I would say yes.

And Laura also said the following on this:

I was wonder about that, in EE program we can de-attact out attacments??? I mean in the POST I bring light to my being so it could be a way to release the attactment of our body consciously?

Yes, doing the EE program can lead to the departure of attachments.  If the emotion that attracted them is released, they go with it.  If the physical condition that vibrates to their frequency is healed, they no longer have a toehold.  In fact, I suspect that many of the "releasing" experiences that some of you have been having are literally "spirit release."  Remember what Castaneda's Don Juan said about the predator's mind?  That it is discipline that taxes it?  Well, doing EE faithfully is the sort of discipline that can do this.
