The Cult of the Plausible Lie

(1/1)

ArdVan:
Thanks Laura for this editorial. If someone doesn't understand it after reading this he/she will never get it. There exists a movie that shows exactly what you have described here:

--- Quote from: Laura ---In legal proof there is a set of rules and a theory which the prosecution presents, and attempts to prove the theory by clever argumentation rather than facts. Truth is not the objective. Getting other people to believe the theory IS the objective. However, the prosecution's theory is whatever the prosecutor believes that he can get away with based on what is known about the case, or what he can PREVENT from being known. What legal 'proof' does is serve as a structure for convincing a group of people of the guilt of a person, about whom they know nothing.
--- End quote ---
The movie is called "Capturing the Friedmans" and it will take you on a ride of emotions and judgements you don't know what's happening to you. The Friedmans are a couple like others and have three sons. But the father gets arrested for being interested in young boys. Well, he admits this and did never lie. But the story explodes and takes a life on its on, so suddenly his oldest son gets accused of the same thing too.

Because the movie is a documentary and the Friedmans have made movies of themselves you get an inside view of this drama you will never see again. You can follow the trail of cause and effect to see how this leads to an ending, where it was like "let this end with horror instead of a horror without ending".

If you still believe in justice and that in court they always want to find out the truth, this movie is not for you.

I can't find this article anymore, has it been removed from SOTT?  I used to have a bookmark to it, because I shared it often with folks, but that isn't working anymore.
