Hey all,

My wife started seeing a Chiropractor after having some problems with her back. She convinced me to go with and we are both going to start going regularly. I think it might be a good thing to check out for myself - I figured that it won't hurt and is worth checking out.

From my understanding, the main theory is that they help the body to remove obstacles that inhibit the flow of energy through the nervous system. It's pretty interesting. However, I really only find negative information about it on the internet.

Does anyone have any experience of Chiropractors? I'd like to hear your thoughts.

I would thoroughly check the chiropractor out first. I had a friend who after seeing one ended up with a pinched nerve at the base of her skull and later that night she ended up having a small stroke. I would suggest considering seeing a masseuse, and there again you'd have to check them out, but at least the dangers are less. In your wifes case I'd look into new bras. I know it may sound silly, but it seems that women often fail to get a bra that's appropriate for them - they want one that's cute or sexy or whatever, and then end up with that ailment known as "bra-strap-back". But chiropractors can be dangerous - my mom calls the bone crunchers, I'm sure there are some good ones out there, but then the alternatives are so much nicer anyway - just make sure you don't fall asleep while drive home from a massage therapist office ;)

Hi, I have been going to chiropractors since I was a kid. It its right that you need to check them out before going to them. Ask around and get some feedback from people you trust. Some "are" real quacks. I had one that said my tailbone was to long and I needed surgery to remove part of it.

But... when you find a good one, they are a life saver. I have hurt my back from a previous stint in the Army ( there's a nasty story) and our family chiropractor fixed me up. I also now have migrain headaches which are caused from my neck muscles getting tight (I lift people for a living) and they pull my neck bone out of alignment and cause the headaches. I go and get myself adjusted and the headaches are gone.

I do recommend (personal preference) a massage afterward if you can afford it. It relax's the muscles and feels Ohhhh so nice.

Some background to the story first. I've been suffering from a form of asthma for about two and a half years, ever since the kids got Pippin. Now, I've had cats before but never had any allergy problems, so it took me awhile to understand what the problem was. At first when I went to a conventional doctor, he told me that many people who immigrate to New Zealand suffer from asthma because it was in the "air" or perhaps because I was allergic to cats! He prescribed the normal steroid and Ventolin spray. No way was I gonna to use that for life!!

So first things first, I didn't believe him. He actually suggested that I get vaccinated with Tamiflu :O since I was asthmatic, never mind that I never had it before. Yeah, right doc!! Okay, next step, diet. Sheesh, I've been here for more than 10 years, so I knew better. Check out the diet and health section. It was easy for me. I had given up alot of the harmful stuff already, so it was just add on a few more things. I stopped all wheat, gluten, the occasional wine, dairy and yes, coffee! Man, I didn't think I could do that, but I did. Added vitamin supplements which included vitamin C, D, magnesium, 5 HTP, and omega 3 fish oil and the weekly diluted DMSO.

Felt alot better but still the wheezing didn't go away. The EE program was helpful but still, the wheezing didn't go away. So finally started looking again at chiropractic care. The trigger for it was an article here where someone mentioned the C1 atlas misalignment. Now I had done spinal adjustments more than 10 years ago, so I knew a little about it. This time around, I started to search first before going for adjustments. I finally found (again) Dr. Tim O'Shea's chiropractic article. In it, he suggested that I look for a chiropractor that did subluxation.

What a relief. After only 4 sessions, the wheezing has almost completely stopped. I've still got 8 more sessions to go! The atlas was completely misalignment! Hope this might be useful to members. Anyone else has a similar story to share?

I've had several positive experiences with different chiropractors. One helped relax the ligaments of my hip area so that my baby could "drop" and be delivered without having to "provoke" the delivery. So she was born the exact day she was due! I was so happy about that, because I did not want a doctor to tell me when my baby should come to this world according to his next holiday...

And another one helped me get rid of a sudden tinnitus and of a neck pain that just would not go away.

I usually prefer word of mouth to select a practitioner of any kind, but it's not always possible. Ask around and there is usually at least one person who is happy with theirs.

Wow, that's great! I used to suffer from asthma. I used to have crises so bad, I needed to get an intravenous right away, because I just stopped breathing. I received cortisone shots every week for two years (and of course it didn't even help) as a child. It continued into adulthood until the day I stumbled on a book called "Plus jamais d'asthme" ('No more asthma' in French). This self-published book had been written by a man who had gotten rid of his asthma by changing his diet, especially by cutting out dairy, wheat and sugar. My asthma stopped as soon as I stopped dairy. I used to have my Ventolin on hand at all times. So I can imagine how happy you must be! Thanks for sharing Vulcan59!

Mine too! :) Of course, I tell people who eat dairy that and they don't believe me. Dairy is addictive.

Well mine didn't. I tried everything and for some reason kept putting off visiting this chiropractor while trying out the diet first. She seems to be very knowledgeable and ask about my diet and specifically about milk consumption. She told me that it was bad and not to take it! :) Wasn't expecting that from her.

On one of my earlier visits, she asked if I was doing any deep breathing exercises and I took the opportunity and ask her about placing some E/E brochures in the reception area and she agreed to it. I made several copies and handed it to her and she indicated that she was interested and will give it a try. I'll ask her again on my next visit. :)

If they believed you, they would have to give up so many things they love: cheese, puddings, crème brûlée, pizza, lattes, etc.
No one is as blind as someone who does not want to see...

Sometimes people need to be desperate to finally give in to something. I once had a client who came with her 1 year old who was having chronic bronchitis. She had gone to specialists and the treatments were getting heavier for the child (cortisone... of course!). I tested that she just had to stop giving him dairy. She was irritated but told me she would give it a try. I told her about how I 'cured' my asthma by stopping dairy. She told me that if it worked, she would never look at conventional medecine the same way. I saw her three weeks later and she could not believe how well it worked! She was overjoyed. And very disappointed by conventional medecine...
