Computer DEMO Scene
« on: March 11, 2011, 08:25:45 AM »
For those who do not know what it is (demo scene).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demoscene

So the story behind this is , recently with a bit of nostalgia I started to watch few older demos on YT.
I was kinda surprised that scene is still alive and doing good. Moreover , they do amazing stuff nowadays.
IMO this can be now called some sort of art.
There are 100s of beautiful demos but I`ll just limit to few examples and the most stunning for me vid because of message ...

Protozoa by kewlers   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bH1khU3CycA

This one is how this particular group (farbrausch) started in 2000

The Product by farbrausch- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LkEsP9H2HGM

This is how they do it nowadays

Rove by farbrausch - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rx0Hbltnzjc   <---- this one is imo amazing

So I was browsing and watching and I got to this one  :O

The Prohecy Project Nemesis by Conspiracy  (2004 64k intro)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgunFcVS1SA

Message it shows (except ending) was kinda stunning to me ...
Plus , this actually might not look great in terms of graphics but it is a 64 K demo !  :O

Thanks for the reminder drygol. The best thing from the demoscene, is that there aren't any commercial interests involved. Just creativity and programming skills.

And especially Farbrausch are pure geniuses :)

C's:  At some point there will be those among your group who will step forward and accept the mantle of teacher.  Your role as teachers of teachers is one that may produce the balancing energy needed for the STO harvest to be plentiful indeed.  Perhaps you should relax and not be afraid of the child you have borne taking its first step out in the world.  There are many teachers in your group.  Each of them will awaken to their mission destiny profile as appropriate. The former demo scene group Night55, designers of the Sonique audio player before Lycos bought it, got me into remixing and composing using tracker software. To this day I still use MadTracker as my primary sequencer. The demo scene is one of those niche subcultures that has remained grassroots throughout. If you want to see the very the cutting edge of computer graphics, programming, and music then watch some of the competition entries. I also recommend watching the old school demos (on an emulator if possible) and marvel at what people created when they were very restricted by technology unlike today. Chip tunes (insanely small song files, originally with lo-res 8-bit samples or less, influenced and were influenced by video game music in a reciprocal way.
