Think it is the context and even the type such as Chrysotile vs. Amosite vs. Tremolite etc. Asbestos under controlled usage such as an engineer requiring a substance to shield heat, has very interesting valuable properties. The same can be said of lead in certain applications or even mercury in a thermometer. When it becomes an additive to thousands of products, because they have mined so much of it, implanted them into our bodies like mercury amalgams, painted them on our walls like lead, added to our drinking water like fluoride and even into our very soils and foods, there is a problem. If mining demand and excesses become sold on mass or sold to third world countries without controls, without knowing the end use or even caring, it will ripple out into a population and cause effects such as we have now. As Megan said of Canola (GMO), or other modifications of food by drugs, chemicals or gene splicing, this is the same, although on much more of a massive scale with all the influencing science to back it up despite the underfunded science that raises red flags and it is all accumulative in our bodies.

In the end, asbestos, like other matters such as uranium left in the ground is what it is and when we decide to profit from it and unleash them into the main and worse, making scientific subjectivity into objective peer reviews that set usage standards to facilitate the business of them, it has failed humanity. Some things have 'standards of use, daily time weight averages (TWA) and such put forth by seemingly reputable science that in reality of what is known should never exist. After all, any amount of exposure to Mercury is too much and yet there are allowable TWA limits that they say it is permissible.
