Pashalis:
while I was reading this, I found that to be a pretty good idea..

--- Quote from: SAO on February 16, 2012, 11:45:53 PM ---The idea that the media is the gateway to public awareness is constantly reinforced. No amount of scientific authority, no amount or strength of evidence seems to matter. If the media says one thing, the public will buy it. Without access to the media there really is no hope, and videos such as this are just proof of that.

Yes.  Reading things like "Strangers to Ourselves" and "Thinking, fast and slow" tell us a lot about why our world is the way it is because people are the kinds of machines they are and few of them are aware of it and therefore unable to overcome it.

One of the things that struck me in these books was the thing about familiar things being trusted more.  If there was a way to get words like "cassiopaea", "sott.net", "eiriu eolas" out there in a big way without any promotion whatsoever - just the words - they would become way more familiar and would therefore find "resonance" within people (machines like "resonance" which is just System 1 in operation.)

Posters, graffiti, stickers, billboards... that sort of thing could really turn things around.

I don't know how many of you carry stickers around in your pockets and constantly put them in places where they will be seen often, but it's a small thing that everyone can do cheaply.  I think we have a thread somewhere talking about it.  But you don't even have to get fancy: just words printed on a few sheets of mailing labels.

If we all could find ways to make stickers, Placards etc with words in it like Eiriu-Eolas, SOTT (Signs Of The Times), The Dot Connector Magazine, Political Ponerology, Cassiopaea, Quantum Future etc. and then put them on every corner where a lot of people will see it I'm sure it will make a big not liniar difference!

It doesn't have to be a lot of writing but those key words should be clearly visible.

for those who are not living in a English speaking country but websites, books, SOTT (from this network) etc are available in their language they could write them in their language and so on...

maybe there are printing companys in your area who would print those things on stickers Placards etc ?

Edit: spelling

I think, spreading keywords like SOTT, Eiriu Eolas etc. on stickers and other means and then putting them in this or that corner is a very good idea. This is one option - a good one, I think. But you need money to buy the materials and you need to invest time, to do the graphics, and more money is needed to put them into print.

There is an alternative option in my head, that I have once read about in another context: To just write these keywords and the web addresses on paper money. When it is being spent in the store or elsewhere, it will spread to different people. The disadvantage I see with that method however is, that it might not be such an eye catcher as stickers, flyers, placards etc. I also don't know, if legal consequences can arise from writing on paper money.

Maybe both alternatives are possible, together with other ideas, which might still come up. My two cents :)

parallel:
I just ordered 100 simple 2*9 cm stickers saying 'Sott . net' in white on blue background (app. 20 euro with shipping). If their durability is good I'll order more for other keywords. I checked around for deals on stickers, ones where you send a .pdf or .eps and receive minimum a box of 1000 or so at generally around 100 euro, which is too much right now. I ended up choosing a site where you can design the sticker online and can choose lesser amounts.

Jones:
I was thinking about this also.

But I was thinking of website addresses on something useful that people would keep because they have practical use like pens or fridge magnets and had been looking around this site: http://www.vistaprint.com.au

Or keychains, USB sticks or bottle openers :http://www.promotionalkeychains.biz/tradeshow-promotional-item-giveaways.html

Then there are the personalised gifts you can design yourself at Cafe Press http://www.cafepress.com/make/personalized-gifts

Some of these options are a little more expensive though so may only suitable for sharing around friends and family rather than for mass distribution.

On this subject I remember there being an EE brochure that we could download and print but I haven't been able to find it.  Does anyone have a link to it?  I'm working in a physiotherapist practice and I'm sure the boss would be open to having some of the brochures on the reception desk.

Laura:
Include "Quantum Future" in your list of things to put on stickers.  I'll try to find out if anybody knows about the EE brochure.

Actually, I was just thinking about printing the words on simple address labels that you can get pretty cheap and can design in Word pretty easily.   Like "Quantum Future: SOTT.net"  and "Quantum Future: Eiriu Eolas"  and "Quantum Future: Dot Connector"  "Quantum Future: Cassiopaea" -  that sort of thing.

Now, if we could only get some terrific graphic artists to get the word out... and maybe someday, hire some billboards or get a few TV spots...
