Spell Checker problem
« on: May 12, 2012, 08:17:04 PM »
I just made a post somewhere and ,as I usually do, wanted to do the spell check before posting. But it failed me.

The popup window opened and that was all. No text appeared and no spell check was made. I'm really handicapped without it. Being a non native speaker, I really want to be reassured beforehand that I made no silly spelling mistakes which could jeopardise understanding.

I tried the spell check again on this post and it didn't work this time either. So please help!

It does not work for me either (I never use it) no matter which browser. What appears is a blank pop window with no content at all.

Hmm, it's definitely broken, and I really have no idea why, because it shouldn't be.

I'll have to dig some more.

Hi Mr. Scott,

I don't know if it would be any help to you doing your digging, to know that the last time I used the spell check in working condition was yesterday in the late afternoon my local time (don't know the universal time count for that, sorry). But I thought I would mention that anyway. Thanks for looking into it so quickly and to Sirius for corroboration of the problem.

Works now.

Spellcheckers won't work unless they have a dictionary of words to spellcheck with!

Thank you both very much for helping out. Much appreciated.

This is what I wrote before trying the spell check on it. Then it failed me again. I'm using Operabrowser which got an upgrade yesterday evening, so maybe the problem is situated there?

After writing this second paragraph, I tried the spell check again on the whole lot and now it did its job perfectly. Problem solved and case closed, I guess. Many thanks, again!

Feel a bit silly nonetheless.

Hi galaxia2002,

I have merged your post with that thread since it is about the same thing "problem with the spell checker".

By the way, the spell checker seems to work fine for me.

Every time you say "yes" to someone who doesn't deserve it, and go against Yourself and what you value the most, you kill a small part of your essence. LKJ

And tell your friend to quit torturing you with trying to force it down your throat!  There are people whose job it is to just be sweet, loving and caring and it is the job of warriors to look after them.  It's that simple. LKJ

A coupe of days ago I wrote a  post
to one of the boards  here and appended this unrelated observation to the bottom:
Quote
BTW. Oddly, the spelling checker throws up a misspelling for the first  "different" in
Quote
...different  types of malignant...that different types...
but not in its second occurrence. They look the same to me. Is it me or is it some glitch in the spelling checker? (If there is any point in replying to this 2nd comment then I guess it should go in the 'Dr. Bizaramor Strikes Back' board to keep this thread on-topic?)
Later I realised it would have been better to have checked the code. Looking at it I can see that a blank space "&nbsp" has attached itself to the first "different". I don't know how it got there but maybe it is an artifact from the cut-and-paste buffer.
I just thought I would mention this to make sure the Fault Report  :) was closed.

Hmm. Now I can't attach a hyper-link  to the word "post".  Didn't there use to be a button to do that? Never mind, this will do.
