Fukushima Radiation Will Kill 1 Million Japanese
« on: May 17, 2012, 05:17:48 AM »
Saw this yesterday:

Quote
According to Dr. John Gofman, the author of ‘Radiation and Human Health’ [...] when these figures are converted to the population of Japan, then approximately 1 million people will develop cancer and die.

John Gofman – Wikipedia

Gofman (September 21, 1918 – August 15, 2007) was an American scientist and advocate. He was Professor Emeritus of Molecular and Cell Biology at University of California at Berkeley. Some of his early work was on the Manhattan Project, and he shares patents on the fissionability of uranium-233 as well as on early processes for separating plutonium from fission products. Dr. Gofman later worked in medicine and led the team that discovered and characterized lipoproteins in the causation of heart disease. In 1963, he established the Biomedical Research Division for the Livermore National Laboratory, where he was on the cutting edge of research into the connection between chromosomal abnormalities and cancer.

One million deaths? That is a huge number. But doesn't that assume that they do nothing?

But what if the Japanese people start loading up on vitamin C (or other anti-oxidants) to prevent DNA damage? And maybe potassium iodide (KI) if there is still a threat from radioactive iodine?

I think the Japanese people can be sticklers for detail at times. For instance, I read some time ago that they wanted "fresh" milk, and so the dairies would not milk their cows until midnight just so that the date would be "today" when the milk went to the market. Think about the high prices that they pay for the highest quality tuna and other seafood that goes into their sushi. If the Japanese people understand the whole problem and solution, I think they will gladly buy and use the anti-oxidants to prevent damage from radiation.

I think those are some pretty big if's. If the Japanese are like other people around the world (and from what I read so far on Fukushima, there is no reason to think otherwise), I tend to think 1 million is quite an optimistic number.

I think the mess is done, and a million is nothing. What is one million? When you think about all the millions that die every year around the world in wars, famines? In Japan, one million is a very small amount of people. How many people live in Tokyo, only? Around 13 millions! So I think more than one million will be concerned with radio activity. And the rest of this planet... So it is a mess, a big big mess.

Iori Mochizuki is a blogger, a journalist and a Japanese cyberdissident been born in 1983. He is the author of Fukushima Diary, a blog which calls up to the evacuation of Japan. And his blog, Fukushima Diary is against media black-out as many others...

Hereafter his blog in English and in Japanese:

Two of his last posts:

500,000Bq/kg of cesium was measured on the roof of Yamagata university, announced in Yamagata prefectural disaster committee on 5/30/2011.

It was the dust accumulated around the drain on the roof of the university building.

Yamagata prefecture is on the west coast of Japan, thought to be relatively less contaminated than east coast. (100km away from Fukushima plants)

Though it was measured one year ago, evacuation order has not been given out.

As a reference though this is not natural soil, comparing it with the contamination level in Belarus in the same way as this,
it’s 10 times higher than the mandatory evacuation limit.

Posted by Mochizuki on May 14th, 2012

People often call me brave to evacuate Japan, but I haven’t found myself brave. It was just a rational decision. No bravery is needed to make a right decision. I think they need to be more brave to stay in Japan.

Rationally think, the only solution is to get out of Japan. No matter how many times you measure radiation, the radionuclide does not decay. Also, most of the radiation measurement of food is about only cesium, but nobody has measured actinoid, strontium and tritium in food. The possible symptom is not even known.

However, I was in Japan for 9 months. Because I had a lot of chance to touch the soil and work in dust, I’m aware that I was irradiated too. I even had the heart pain since Autumn. I recognize that fact that I might die in a few years. Dead cells of my heart will never come back alive. Now I’m living on the assumption that I will live only for another few years. Maybe not, maybe yes. If I don’t die, I’m just lucky.
I want to do my best before I leave this world.

Surely a better way for all of us than do nothing, but and unfortunately, a way not follow by the Japanese Government and the Media... Or any else by the way.
There is a frustrating side, that moreover have to feel the Japanese scientists of the video, not to be listened while the only purpose is to try to save lives.

Actually I often increase my daily dose of Vit. C from 5000 g to 10000 g, for example when the temperatures outside change brutally, or when I feel tired.
Vitamine C is one of the best antioxidant with Vitamine E, it also is a pilar of our own immune system and its capacities to help in good health of cells should be known all around the world.

Thanks for sharing it Kniall.

I live in Kiev. It is 80km south from Chernobyl. There are no such statictics in this region after disaster which occurs 26 years ago.
