Here's a bit of good news. One down, a couple of million to go!

Quote
An Italian court has sentenced Silvio Berlusconi to four years in jail for tax fraud in connection with the purchase of broadcasting rights by his Mediaset television company.

The former Italian prime minister has the right to appeal against the ruling two more times before the sentence becomes definitive and will not be jailed unless the final appeal is upheld. Prosecutors had asked for a jail sentence of three years and eight months.

Got two appeals left so let's not get our hopes up...

Yeah.  But will they really lock him up???
He who learns must suffer
And even in our sleep pain that cannot forget
Falls drop by drop upon the heart,
And in our own despair, against our will,
Comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God.

Yeah, my initial jump for joy was dampened by that thought. Not holding my breath...

His sentence was cut to one year 2 hrs after the initial verdict. He will appeal of course, and as the average time for a verdict to get executable in Italy is 13 years, he will be over the age where he can be legally imprisoned before the appeals are done with.

Since when, tell me, that type of psychopaths go to jail? It is like asking a General going in the middle of a battle. Others, yes. Him? I don't think so. But, if he goes, it is also for other reasons but not because he is a macabre clown (corrupt politician.)
