Fulvic Trace Minerals in Water
« on: June 10, 2012, 07:19:10 PM »
I picked up a bottle of water at a coffee shop yesterday... it was being marketed as 'infused with fulvic trace minerals' and since it only had water and a bunch of minerals I gave it a shot:

Then I got curious on the interweb and looked it up... apparently these minerals do all sorts of wonderful things to our cells:

Fulvic Acid will alkaline the blood faster than any other natural health product on earth.
Fulvic Acid has over 77 Macro and Trace Minerals, naturally occurring in their ionic (nano) form for ultimate absorption.
Humic Acid and Fulvic Acid work together to remove unwanted salt acids that surround & harden cell walls, creating cell permeability.
Fulvic Acid is the electrolyte that enables our cells to absorb nutrients and is a multi-directional antioxidant.
Fulvic and Humic Acid, Trace Minerals & Essential Amino Acids are required for a myriad of metabolic functions, yet cannot be produced by the body.
Fulvic Acid detoxifies the body by eliminating heavy metals and toxins (including radiation) and is considered the most powerful form of Oral Chelation.
Fulvic Acid allows other Super-Foods, Vitamins, and Herbs to be absorbed and effectively utilized by the body.
Fulvic Acid provides increased energy, mental clarity, and sense of well being by feeding and nourishing every cell in the body.

Granted, they're selling them, so they're input is going to be biased, but the concept made sense to me and I'm going to look through the literature and see what I can find. Nonetheless, I thought I'd bring it up here and see if anyone had any experience or input on the matter.

I hadn't encountered it before. What concerns me (and a number of well-known Paleo authors) is the large amount of attention given to individual nutrients. This reductionist "scientific" approach can easily miss what happens in real life, so I don't know what to make of this information.

It is really important to step back and try to see the big picture. Science can do that, but it's harder to do and it isn't exactly the fast track toward obtaining funding, nor is it generally supportive of the sale of nutritional supplements.

I guess my next question would be in what natural foods does this nutrient occur in bioavailable form?

The minerals sound interesting, but these days without an explanation of how something works I'm not particularly impressed with any claims made (especially by those selling it).

This statement is the biggest clue, it is the biggest contradiction I have ever read. The human blood cannot be alkalinized beyond the narrow range it is at. The blood has to stay at that specific narrow range otherwise the body dies. It is called homeostatic state. Check your knowledge!

Acid removing another acid? Isn't that a contradiction?

The whole advertisement is very confusing to me.

Agree. How can an acid turns blood more alkaline? there is an intrinsic contradiction. I suppose that this is a way to market, or  even to explain (if it works) how does it, in terms of the very publicized and simplified alkaline/acid balance.

From wiki

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humic_acid

Quote
The presence of carboxylate and phenolate groups gives the humic acids the ability to form complexes with ions such as Mg2+, Ca2+, Fe2+ and Fe3+. Many humic acids have two or more of these groups arranged so as to enable the formation of chelate complexes. The formation of (chelate) complexes is an important aspect of the biological role of humic acids in regulating bioavailability of metal ions.

Fulvic minerals was discussed a bit previously:

http://cassiopaea.org/forum/index.php/topic,13288.msg302620.html#msg302620

I took fulvic minerals as part of a vitamin supplement years ago but didn't notice any significant difference.  In my opinion it just seemed like the hype of the moment in the supplement world but I could be wrong.

Well, I was finally able to pick up some supplements from the shop this past week, I picked up Vitamin C & a Fulvic Acid Mineral complex called Liquid Light by SunWarrior. Now, I took it the same day I bought it, and when I woke up the next day, I was cleaning and there were these 2 five gallon water bottles, my body kinda said we can pick them up, one in each hand. I did it and I said, hmm, that's something I haven't been able to do for over a year because I stopped working out and was transitioning into paleo.

I can say that so far and mind you it's only been 5 days, I am at a greater level of well being, I don't know if that's due to the Liquid Light, Vitamin C, or both, but time will tell.

Here's what I am reading: _http://www.omicahealth.com/fulvicAcid2.htm
For to know our past we may conjecture about our future. and to know our future is to be able to divine our purpose in a cosmic sense. And having done that, our priorities may be ordered accordingly so that we will no longer groan under the weight of feeling cast adrift in an uncaring & hostile universe - orphans of the cosmos - playthings of the gods. -- Laura Knight-Jadczyk The Noah Syndrome
