"Last Post" function--off by one error?
« on: June 21, 2012, 03:32:17 PM »
Routinely when I use the "Last Post" link on a thread to view the new unread posts on a thread, it takes me past the first unread post and displays on the second unread post.  So there might be new posts on a thread, I'll go to the second new post and miss the first new one and have to scroll up to see it or go back a page.  I don't think the forum has always done this and I think it's been going on for me for at least a week.

Is anyone else having this issue?

I have it quite a bit. It's been going on for a few months, but not every time I click "new" in a thread. I've just gotten into the habit of going up from the post it starts at and making sure that I haven't read the previous post. And sometimes there's a couple of new posts before the one it starts at when clicking "new." FWIW.

I can think of this network-group as a second, adopted family. I can think of Laura and Ark as the "parents" of this rather large family with all our amusing foibles. Occasionally there will be a "falling out;" a certain member may leave the family. But life goes on... and we all continue learning our lessons.

Yes, has been happening to me for about a month now. I thought at first it was a security issue with my account, so reported via PM to Mr. Scott,  but I've been assured it is just a glitch.

A couple days ago, it skipped 2 messages when I went to load a thread. I only notice it when there is a reply being referenced that I have not previously read.

The concern I have is, how many posts have I missed that weren't later referenced, and so not noticed?

Glad to hear it isn't just me though. :)

I never even knew you could just click on "New", learn something new everyday.  :D   If you are logged in and open a thread, it seems it just picks up where you last stopped reading.  If not logged in, it starts at the first page.  ...or not, now I have to go check!

I've lost my avatar on log in, so maybe just glitches here and there.

added:  it seems it just takes up where you left off, logged in or not.

This function seems to be working again for me consistently since yesterday.  If someone fixed it--thanks!

FWIW, I'm still having issues with this problem, it has never stopped for me that I can tell. It may also be of interest to note that I've seen it happen with one thread in particular at least 4 or 5 times: http://cassiopaea.org/forum/index.php/topic,27593.new/topicseen.html#new (that post is not located in a public area of the forum)
