The life of Belle

(1/4) > >>

voyageur:

Belle was my mom’s dog of nine years and she passed on with the help of a most kindly veterinarian yesterday. She became suddenly ill with a large tumor on her neck, diagnosed as Lymphoma.  It abate somewhat, and then she started not eating and drinking only slightly, which she then brought up. The weekend here was a ‘long weekend’ and the vet was closed. Each day she became weaker and weaker and I would come over to see her, try briefly to give her comfort.  She has been my mom’s constant companion, inseparable together, learning from each other.  When away, Belle would stay at our farm and play with our two dogs and was a big part of the family.  As sick as she was, Belle seemed to be waiting, and out of the blue, her original owner, a friend of my mom’s called knowing Belle was ill and drove hours to be with her. The next morning, she could hardly stand and the vet arrived at the house on his day off (he has helped me twice with my own dogs) and gently helped her on her way with the assistants of her two mom’s. Was told, that at this final moment, a mother and her fawn first went to Belle’s blanket outside and then came to the window and looked in upon her as she left.

Have known a great many dogs, yet Belle had one of the sweetest souls; a particular strong presents and is now on her way home.

I'm so sorry to hear that!
It must have been painful for you and your Mom.
My heart goes out to you!

I'll second that sentiment. At least she was helped to pass gently without further suffering. :hug2:
