It's interesting that this post turned up today when I was preparing to do some research on Soros and was considering taking my questions about him to the forum.
I have done some research about him on and off, never in a really serious way, but the little I have learned about him does not seem bad at all.
Some right wing websites say what they consider terrible things about him, but those terrible things are, in my book, good things.

Environmental extremism: Former Obama green jobs czar Van Jones and his leftist environmental ideas have been funded by Soros’ money at these groups: the Ella Baker Center, Green For All, the Center for American Progress, and the Apollo Alliance, which was instrumental in getting $110 billion in green initiatives included in Obama’s stimulus package. Soros also funds the Climate Policy Initiative to address global warming and gave Friends of the Earth money to “integrate a climate equity perspective in the presidential transition.”
8. America Coming Together: Soros gave nearly $20 million to this 527 group with the express purpose of defeating President Bush. A massive get-out-the-vote effort, ACT’s door-to-door canvassing teams included numerous felons, its voter registration drives were riddled with fraud, and it handed out incendiary fliers and made misleading taped phone calls to voters. ACT was fined $775,000 by the Federal Election Commission for violations of various federal campaign finance laws.
My response to #7 is that I'm all in favor of green initiatives. Unfortunately, if Soros did make this contribution, it's gone to waste as Obama seems to have absolutely no interest in green initiatives.
The accusations made in #8 describe everything the Right is doing. It's Orwellian. I only regret that Soros only gave $20 million to defeat Bush. Considering the work of the Koch brothers to introduce right wing legislation in several states at once, their intense lobbying for the energy industry, and the unlimited cash going into this year's Republican favored candidates, one has to conclude that they are the major force manipulating U.S. elections and legislation. Of course, that's all due to Citizens' United, but that's another story.

Are you speaking of George Soros the convicted felon? I wasn't aware of any connection but would love to hear more!
Indeed, Ark paid for his ticket with his own money but he WAS going to a visiting researcher position at the University of Florida where he was paid for research and writing a paper which acknowledged the support of the university. Later, he had a teaching position there. So, sorry, it was all very boring usual way things are done in academia.

Hello all,
I have changed my display name to Keyhole for obvious reasons (the previous display name was my real full name). When i wrote this post, it seems at that time i was desperately searching for something, anything to give me a reason to disbelieve and block out the information presented in the book i had previously read (the wave). Upon reading the other posts it was almost as if i just completely dismissed anything said in order to chase after my comfortable illusion of life. What followed was a long stretch of denial. Looking back i guess that this was probably due to the fact that i simply was not at a stage where i was ready to digest any of this.
Throughout the year i had searched for more and more answers, me and my partner have been travelling in India for the past 8 months and have experienced a number of rather forceful New Agers trying to impose their belief systems upon us both. I found myself feeling extremely uneasy while staying with a couple who were deeply involved with certain teaching and regularly attended the seminars etc, it was while at the house i experienced what i can only describe as a 'conscious shock?'. It was this overpowering sudden realization that i had to leave that place, but most of all that i had been in denial ever since writing this post. I felt this driving urge to come straight back on to the forum and order all of the other books. Since that time i have been reading Ouspensky's Fourth Way and have read the Wave series (up to book 6), yet had not built up the confidence to comment on the forum due to feeling rather foolish and looking back - extremely ignorant. This forum is something special, and i decided that i am not willing to let my ego stop me from participating any longer.
I did not want to post this on the Newbies section as i already posted when i first signed onto the forum, i also apologize for the long speech although i thought i should explain a little about the process of what happened and brought me to this.
