Comments to a Sott Article

Hi Jerry,

I believe you need to login to sott.net in order to comment which is different from the forum login. Hope it helps.

I just logged into sott.net, which I haven't done so for a long time. There's an "Add a new Comment" section at the bottom of each article that you can use to comment.

Thanks guys. Thing is, I'm logged in to Sott.net and there's no "Add a new Comment" section that I can see.

If there are already comments on the article, you have to go to the end of the last comment to see the "Add a new Comment" thingy. If you still do not see it, try:

Holding down the "shift" key, then clicking on the reload icon at the top and see if that helps.

I'm unable to view any comments anywhere, not even "read full comment" on the Recent Comments sidebar.

Is it possible having access to Sott from 2 IPs could cause a glitch? Though that's been the case for years and I haven't had this occur before.

Which browser are you using? I can see it fine from using firefox.

Yeah, I think it could be a glitch for you.

I normally use Firefox, but also have IE. It's the same for both.

I cleared the internet cache and rebooted my CPU. No luck.

You can only logg in on one browser. That means if you are loggrd in in another browser (even same computer) you get logged out again on the other computer or browser/ip but you should anyway see comments either logged in or not.

But that you can't view comments is strange. Did you double check with an alternative browser? And eventually try to switch of an ad blocker may help too.

I'm home now and logged into Sott.net.

Everything works, so it's something about my computer at work. Thanks for all the help.

Oh, that's good. Then, I guess your work computer have some kind of blocker or software built-in that interfere with all things SotT.

:)

I've also had this problem (or something similar).

I would log in alright but whenever I clicked on an article or different section, I'd be unlogged.

So it was like being unlogged every time I went to another page.

But just messing with it and eventually it would be ok.

I've had this issue with both Firefox and IE.

But it is just a rare occurrence.

I just ran into something alike while using FireFox 23.0.1.

Clearing the cache of the page previously watched in unlogged mode did the trick for me and I could post a comment after that.

But I also noticed something else.

It used to be, when logging in while being on the page where you would like to post a comment on, that you stayed on that page logged in and could readily comment without further delay.

Nowadays, when logging in you automatically are redirected to the front page and have to search the sections again and click the page you need first in order to be able to comment. Rather cumbersome, really.

Why is this detour necessary anyway?

I can still do that. I logged in on this page and stayed on it. For me, the page I log in on has to be the most recent page loaded in the browser for it to work.

I think Palinurus was referring to the SOTT page, not the forum. On SOTT, you can be on the most recent page but logged off, go to log in, and it takes you to the home page i.e. sott.net, not the page you were just viewing. Some other websites do that too, and it can be frustrating to lose your place and have to go and look for the specific place you were just at.
