Vile paedophile who hoarded videos of babies being raped and tortured was allowed to continue running child hypnotherapy clinic after being found guilty

A paedophile was allowed to run a clinic offering treatments to young children for two months after a court found him guilty of his sickening crimes.

Timothy Millender, 32, continued to work at Redwood Health Therapies, in Winchester, Hampshire, which offered hypnotherapy to youngsters under 16, despite being given a six month suspended sentence for hoarding vile images of babies being raped and tortured.

Millender pleaded guilty at Basingstoke Magistrates' Court to having 740 pictures and 106 videos of children as young as six months being abused. Some of the films were level five, the most extreme level possible.

On top of his suspended sentence, he was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register but still went back to work at the clinic.

Millender was listed as a director of the company which, according to the Sunday Mirror, was hastily shut down last week.

However, the website is still live and claims the hypnotherapy sessions 'help children to free themselves of their bottled up emotions' by using the 'Blowaway Technique' - a popular form of therapy where children are hypnotised into a physically relaxed state and then told to literally 'blow away' any bad feelings or problems they may have.

A former employee told the Sunday Mirror: 'It's shocking a convicted paedophile could carry on running a business advertising services for children.

'The images he was looking at were of the very worst kind yet he walked free from court and was able to carry on running the clinic for two months after he pleaded guilty. It's disgusting.'

The clinic rebranded itself St Giles Health and Beauty earlier this month. It claimed to be under new management, although Millender was still listed as a director. However, clients who turned up for appointments last week found the door locked.

The clinic has been approached for comment.

In animals, infanticide involves the killing of young offspring by a mature animal of its own species, and is studied in zoology, specifically in the field of ethology.

Filial infanticide occurs when a parent kills its own offspring. This sometimes involves consumption of the young themselves, which is termed filial cannibalism. The behavior is widespread in fishes, and is seen in terrestrial animals as well. Human infanticide has been recorded in almost every culture. A unique aspect of human infanticide is selective infanticide based on gender.

Infanticide only came to be seen as a significant occurrence in nature quite recently. At the time it was first seriously treated by Yukimaru Sugiyama, infanticide was attributed to stress causing factors like overcrowding and captivity, and was considered pathological and maladaptive. Classical ethology held that conspecifics (members of the same species) rarely killed each other. By the 1980s it had gained much greater acceptance. Possible reasons it was not treated as a serious natural phenomenon include its abhorrence to people...

Maternal infanticide occurs when newborn offspring are killed by their mother. This is sometimes seen in pigs, a behavior known as savaging, which affects up to 5% of gilts. Similar behavior has been observed in various animals such as rabbits and burying beetles.

Paternal infanticide—where fathers eat their own offspring—may also occur. When young bass hatch from the spawn, the father guards the area, circling around them and keeping them together, as well as providing protection from would-be predators. After a few days, most of the fish will swim away. At this point the male's behavior changes: instead of defending the stragglers, he treats them as any other small prey, and eats them.

Humans and infanticide
Infanticide is a subject that some humans may find discomforting. Cornell University ethologist Glenn Hausfater states that "infanticide has not received much study because it's a repulsive subject [...] Many people regard it as reprehensible to even think about it." Research into infanticide in animals is in part motivated by the desire to understand human behaviors, such as child abuse. Hausfater explains that researchers are "trying to see if there's any connection between animal infanticide and child abuse, neglect and killing by humans [...] We just don't know yet what the connections are."

Infanticide has been, and still is practiced by some human cultures, groups, or individuals. In many past societies, certain forms of infanticide were considered permissible, whereas in most modern societies the practice is considered immoral and criminal. It still takes place in the Western world usually because of the parent's mental illness or violent behavior, and in some poor countries as a form of population control, sometimes with tacit societal acceptance. Female infanticide, a form of sex-selective infanticide, is more common than the killing of male offspring.

·One of Europe's top police officers has warned of a sickening online trade in child torture porn.

Rob Wainwright, the director of Europol, said offenders are using the untraceable online currency Bitcoin to pay for depraved 'shows', performed live on webcams, which see young children raped and burned.

He said: 'The level of depravity seems to be descending year on year, frankly, including what seems to be in vogue now, which is live webcam 'shows' of toddlers not just being raped but being burnt with cigarettes.

Sorry, but it's happening online and it's extremely difficult for us to identify.'

Mr Wainwright warned that Bitcoin - a 'crypto-currency' based on mathematical formulae and independent of any government or central bank - is propping up a criminal black market.

He also warned that police and politicians were struggling to keep up with the pace of online crime, thanks to widespread anonymity online, and easy access to encryption technology which can make criminals almost impossible to track down.

Mr Wainwright warned that the principle that everyone's online activity should be anonymous by default needs to be challenged in order to police the internet effectively.

He criticised the sluggish response from the police, politicians and big businesses, saying that equivalent levels of crime in the physical world would be 'front page news.'

He told The Times: 'It is frustrating that we are not getting the message out, at least not loud enough for legislators to hear it.'

The Internet Watch Foundation pressure group has recently claimed to have found evidence of an email scam directing people to underground websites where the sick 'shows' could be seen in exchange for Bitcoin.

I'm very careful what I say to people, but when appropriate, I say a little bit and my experience when telling these things is that people are in denial. 'It cannot be that bad!', 'I don't want to hear it, I'd rather not know, since there's nothing I can do anyway', 'This is a bit much, don't you think? You can't believe everything you read, you know'.

Especially here in Belgium: since Dutroux has been put in jail, people seem to think that the only threat to their child has been dealt with. The media has done a 'wonderful' job convincing people that there are no networks.

I agree that we have to be careful/considerate, although I think the situation is slightly different in Holland. We have got Demmink now, the ex top dog of the ministry of injustice, who is in the news on a regular basis and it seems as if people discuss pedophilia/his case more and more on Dutch fora, although they do not seem to be aware of networks, but it is a start.
I don't say much, but I do post articles from time to time, like the Anna Salter interview. For most people this seems more than enough, but I could be mistaken.

A paedophile teacher drugged and molested up to 60 boys as young as ten at a British private school after four decades spent abusing children around the globe.

William Vahey, 64, plied them with sleeping pills before carrying out his sickening attacks during class trips abroad, it emerged last night.

The married teacher appeared to have an ‘immaculate record’ when he started work at the elite Southbank International School in 2009. In reality, he had covered up a child sex conviction and spent 40 years abusing ‘hundreds’ of youngsters in nine countries.

Vahey committed suicide at a motel in the US last month – just days after confessing. The FBI had been poised to investigate a USB memory stick containing graphic images of 90 children who appeared to be asleep or unconscious while they were assaulted during field trips dating back to 2008

The photos featured between 50 and 60 pupils at Southbank International in central London, where American-born Vahey taught ten to 16-year-olds history and geography and led trips to destinations such as Nepal and Venezuela.

Last night, distraught parents at the prestigious school favoured by foreign executives feared they may never know whether their children were abused because the victims had been secretly fed sedatives beforehand.

Sir Chris Woodhead, the former chief inspector of schools and chairman of governors at Southbank International, described the case as ‘the worst thing that I’ve ever been involved in in 40 years of education’.

Scotland Yard is now trying to formally identify Vahey’s victims, all boys aged between ten and 14. Southbank International, which has 758 pupils and charges fees of £25,000 a year, revealed Vahey had been investigated over a previous ‘incident’ during his time at the school. But it claimed it was not pursued at the request of both parents and child.

Vahey underwent a Criminal Records Bureau check when he was taken on and another three years later. Both gave him the all-clear even though he had a child sex conviction in California dating back to 1969.

The father of two – who lived in a stunning £1.8million Georgian property in Maida Vale, west London, with his 66-year-old wife Jean – was highly respected in the private education community.

But unbeknown to teachers and parents, he had spent years hiding his conviction and did not sign the sex offenders register in the US.

Last night FBI investigators described his sordid activities as ‘one of the most prolific and heinous suspected sexual predator cases we have ever seen’.

Sir Chris said he felt physically sick at the abuse. He said it ‘beggars belief’ that Vahey was able to teach in the UK and at other schools in Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Madrid, Athens, Venezuela, Iran and Lebanon despite his conviction.

Yesterday, parents said they felt ‘upset and betrayed’.

One mother whose son went on a field trip with the pervert said: ‘I couldn’t sleep last night. I am shocked, very shocked. My boy is 13 now and his class teacher was Vahey. Even if they find my son in the photos, I would rather not know and just forget about it.

‘My son is very worried. He asked me “did I get molested?”.’ Another mother said: ‘Every teenage kid who went on those trips is asking, “Was it me?” They are scared and distraught, can’t believe it’s true, don’t want it to be true.’

Vahey, who left Southbank International last year, was only caught after a housekeeper at a school he moved to in Nicaragua stole a memory stick containing the vile images. She was sacked, but months later went back to school administrators after viewing the USB stick and finding images of Vahey and sleeping nude teenage boys.

The photos were catalogued with dates and locations that corresponded with overnight field trips that Vahey had taken with students since 2008.

When confronted, he confessed to using sleeping pills to abuse boys throughout his life.

Unremorseful, he said: ‘I was molested as a boy – that is why I do this. I have been doing this my whole life.’

According to an affidavit filed at the federal courthouse in Houston, Texas, Vahey insisted that he ‘never hurt’ any of the boys and that they did not even know what had happened to them because they were asleep.

But two days after the FBI filed a warrant to examine the memory stick, Vahey killed himself at the motel in Luverne, Minnesota.

FBI Special Agent Shauna Dunlap said: ‘It appears he was able to perfect his craft in such a way these children were unable to know what happened to them and unable to report it.

‘It is fair to assume there are many victims. The figure could be in the hundreds.’

Graham Lacey, executive principal at Southbank International, said Vahey was subject to a CRB check when he joined the school, which revealed nothing untoward.

A second check three years later produced the same result and three references the school obtained were ‘outstanding’.

Yesterday, Mr Lacey confirmed that 50 to 60 pupils had fallen victim to the predator.

He wrote to parents: ‘This disclosure which we learned this morning, left us all appalled. As staff we feel upset, angry and betrayed. We can only imagine what you as parents must feel.’

He described Vahey as an ‘extremely popular teacher’ but admitted that ‘rumours were in fact circulating amongst students and parents’. He added: ‘There are perhaps lessons here to be learnt.’

Mr Lacey said there had been an incident involving the teacher which was investigated at the time, but the parents and child did not want to pursue it.

Pupils are being offered counselling and a meeting for parents is due to be held next week. A spokesman for Scotland Yard said last night: ‘We are liaising with the school to ensure that any potential victims who come forward receive the necessary support.’

JIS head Timothy Carr denied on Monday reports of similar cases occurring in the past.

“There had been none. That’s just speculation. Right now we are prioritizing our working standards and the security of our students,” he said.

“We’ve never heard about any similar case. The last time I heard about a similar case was 17 years ago, but there was no investigation [conducted] into the matter and [it] was closed.”

Carr also shot down rumors of JIS teachers being reported for sexually abusing students.

“Not a single teacher has ever committed it [abuse],” said Carr before further explaining that the school’s strict hiring process involved mandatory recommendations from the British, US and Australian embassies.
