Just heard from a friend near the center of this 6.7.

Simon Fraser University Geologist Brent Ward said this was quite a large earthquake. “Very lucky that it’s off the coast and it’s not that close to high population centres,” he said. “”Because this is actually bigger than one of the earthquakes that hit Christchurch in New Zealand and that caused extensive damage."
 
My friend texted me, inspiring me to do find out if it was true. A number of people here felt the tremors, though I can't say I was one of them

The quake hit off the coast of Vancouver island, well south of Port Alice. As far as I know there are no major population centers in that particular region thankfully.

Curiously enough I posted about earthquakes today, and seemingly concurrently a friend and I were talking about the merits and demerits of earthquake and general disaster preparedness.

Seriously, surreal.
 
My friend who is on a small adjacent island said everything shook and the dogs were freaking out.

6.6 earthquake hits just off vancouver coastline

I was speaking with a friend living in British Columbia who said she had experienced an earthquake where she lives. I could not find anything on SOTT.
