"Happy Hallowe'en" from our Sun

Hello everyone

I find it interesting that the Sun has become very active recently. It is supposed to become less active as the Sunspot cycle is in a declining cycle however if you look at SpaceWeather now you will see many active sun spots.

Also there was a large "explosion" on the far side of the Sun, most likely a X-type flare:

"SIGNIFICANT FARSIDE EXPLOSION: Yesterday, Oct. 29th, something exploded on the farside of the sun. It was probably a sunspot. NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory saw material flying over the edge of the solar disk (movie), while the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) recorded a significant CME:"

Thing is, with this solar cycle, they get all excited about a single spot or flare. I've got images of the sun from previous cycles where the it was just covered with spots and flaring practically every couple of days. So labeling this a "very active sun" is rather misleading!!

Yes I agree.

Sorry, I labelled the subject line as very active sun, not SpaceWeather lol. The sun has been unusually quiet the last couple of months but suddenly things are happening which tells me there might be an external factor causing this.

Maybe a "Happy" Halloween showing by our closest Star.
