New Movie - The 5th wave

Duke

Jedi
Watched this movie the other day -- I'm not one to wax on in full blown critique of the movie but my " C's filter" was pinging like crazy!!
Some of the things where. 1- the heroine is a blond bombshell who's nickname is Cassy, short for ...... yes you gest it
2- the disastrous effects of disinformation
3- The "Others" needing our planet more than us and the ways of slowly exterminating us.
Just three for now it's too early for in-depth thinking here at the moment.... I know you guys will see some real massages in there...

I remember the C's saying something about hiding information in movies if you know how to look...

Even I don't like american movies, this one looks interesting. Thank you.

You have to get the "Integration code" from Youtube (right click on the video) and past the code between "embed" tags that you get with the play button of the forum.

YES! :bacon: :cheer:, you made me so happy Ellipse ;). I was trying this for some time. ;D

This reminds me of the use of repetition in schooling.... over and over the same thing... isn't this the same story as so many others? Invasion of the Body Snatchers.... Independence Day etc?
You can't say the message isn't out there for those seeking it, feeling something is wrong... etc.
Then, like that other 'bug' invader movie comes the narrator: "Do You Want to Know More?"
 Just searched 'bug scifi movie' and there it is: StarShip Troopers.

I think that only Star Trek even hinted at the possible hyperdimensional aspect of 'higher' beings... "Q" was one in the later project... the original had a few, like the 'gods' playing chess with the crew.... the 'gods' or some of them, as essentially children in mind.... that needed to grow up... that was rather human or humane or just the usual projection of ourselves onto our opponent... but today, even this isn't in the storyline... that 'dumbing down' aspect again... gets worse and worse the closer we get... more than just generational, as the timeframe is condensing into years now... is months even possible in this process before it implodes?

I notice in the preview, and all the other films like this, that 'they' don't need us... they just want the planet... wasn't 'V' like that... even that Twilight Zone episode had us in their 'cookbook'... we keep getting downgraded it seems, so that we aren't even needed anymore! No respect, and a reason to just go to sleep and quit any resistance, which must be futile, right? And only a handful fight back to survive... Independence Day again... utilizing bits of truth to feed the fear... like communism using marxism/socialism etc... the same as fascism and all the 'isms... that select few to rule the masses...

This also reminds me of 'Red Dawn'... the list is endless as it repeats over and over the same message.... only the 'enemy' is within, more than without... but that doesn't sell as well at the box office it seems... or at least much harder to write and direct... inner monologues are better suited to Shakespeare it seems, not our 'modern' empire of dumbed down 'things'.

It does get repetitive, but that is a sign of age and/or exposure. The film doesn't look bad, just more of the same... the graphics always look good as they always seem to target London...

The 6th wave was when people started walking out the theatre.

I see what you mean Duke, so many references on the trailer from Cassy, the others being among us, causing chaos, airbourne diseases etc etc etc. But to be honest, I'm not drawn to see it. Why? Because you can just read SOTT!

Yes, wasn't it The Day After Tomorrow where Big Ben is almost submerged in snow ..

:/ not sure, as the posters differed for marketing in the US (using the Statue of Liberty, if I remember this correctly) and in UK (using Big Ben).. always gotta use the well known terrorist, oops, tourist highlights for better manipulation or sales of the product... that way the foundation is strong. ;)

So I've just finished watching this film, just wanted to make a quick post before I go to sleep.
Pretty okay film not a huge fan but it's okay, few interesting parts to the film that relate to some of the talk I read on here. The most obvious is the main character cassy, and casiopaea actually being referenced in the last scene of the film...interesting one might say. As it is the first time I've ever heard it in the main stream.
So the story goes a little like this, first event is an world wide emp that causes havoc with cars planes and such (the first wave). A mass rise of water levels sunamis and floods (second wave). World wide deadly virus (third wave). Fourth wave I can't recall.... I'm quite tired.. And the 5th wave being an on ground invasion with a slight twist. Spoiler alert!!!!! The army are controlled by or are the "others" who use the children they have gathered after killing there parents to trick them into believing that all living humans left are the others and get sent to kill them. They come to realise they have been manipulated, and a couple save the day.
Overall I think the film was made a little more interesting just from being in this forum, possibly a little glimpse into future events :O but who knows
I probably haven't even scratched the surface of what information may be in this movie, I hope others have opinions on this film and look forward to reading a little more on this topic
As always much love and good night

I'm thinking the cable stations are running out of stuff to show so they keep recycling old/older movies that most of us have seen one or more times. Deep Impact was on again last week along w/ several other movies w/ apocalyptic themes. I did encounter a new one on Turner Classic Movies - The Last Wave w/ Richard Chamberlain from 1977/78 (it got 3 stars); from wiki:

220px-Thelastwave.jpg

The Last Wave (released as Black Rain in the United States) is an Australian mystery drama film from 1977, directed by Peter Weir. It is about a white solicitor in Sydney whose seemingly normal life is disrupted after he takes on a murder case and discovers that he shares a strange, mystical connection with the small group of local Australian Aborigines accused of the crime.

The film opens with a montage of scenes of daily life in Australia in the 1970s: a rural school in the desert, the main street of an outback town, a traffic jam in the city, all being affected by unusually adverse weather conditions that suddenly appear. Only the local Aboriginal people seem to recognize the cosmological significance of these weather phenomena.

During one of these "freak rainstorms" in Sydney, an altercation occurs among a group of Aborigines in a pub, which results in the mysterious death of one of them. At the coroner's inquest, the death is ruled a homicide; and four men are accused of murder. Through the Australian Legal Aid system, David Burton (Richard Chamberlain) is procured for their defence. The circumstances by which he was contacted and retained are unusual, in that his law practice is corporate taxation and not criminal defense. He nonetheless takes on the case, and his professional and personal lives begin to unravel.

Plagued by bizarre dreams, Burton begins to sense an otherworldly connection to one of the accused (David Gulpilil). He also feels connected to the increasingly strange weather phenomena besetting the city. His dreams intensify along with his obsession with the murder case, which he comes to believe is an Aboriginal tribal killing by curse, in which the victim believed. Learning more about Aboriginal practices and the concept of Dreamtime as a parallel world of existence, Burton comes to believe the strange weather bodes of a coming apocalypse. (stopping here so as to not spoil the ending)
The black rain is identified as petroleum - which brings to mind the whole sentient oil component from the X-Files.

I know I've seen references to the constellation Cassiopaea more than once in movies (Jodie Foster-Contact ???). It always jumps out at me now that I know its significance as did this movie's title, The Last Wave. Those particular words as a title definitely caught my attention!

I also just recently figured out how to embed a video on the forum. I was trying to grab a screen shot from a video and saw the embed code as one of the options when right clicking. I immediately thought that that was how to insert it into a post - and it was!

But to be honest, I'm not drawn to see it. Why? Because you can just read SOTT!

Couldn't agree more! In fact, while watching the trailer I'm thinking this stuff is already happening now - no need to wait for a 5th wave!

Thought I'd mention that another sort of apocalyptic movie that was on last week was WALL-E. I hadn't seen it from the beginning, so was determined to do so which meant sitting thru long, aggravating commercial breaks. (Watch enough regular TV and the commercials will drive you stark, raving mad! Thank goodness for Turner Classic Movies w/ NO commercials!) Honestly, that little clip from the musical Hello Dolly was SO catchy that it just stayed w/ me well into the next day - I keep humming/singing it and went so far as to look it up as I didn't know it was from Hello Dolly at first. It was obvious that it was from a musical but I wouldn't have guessed Hello Dolly - Barbara Streisand wasn't featured in the clip. That clip just really lifted my spirits - which was sorely needed in contemplating the horrendous piles of trash covering the earth depicted in the movie. And can't we all see this happening in the here and now . . . :(
