Revamp of The Wave - feedback and suggestions welcome

I really like Stuart's first of the three, too. Perhaps JR's soul hackers cover could be used for Petty Tyrants? Would it be possible for you guys (Stuart and JR) to share files, in order to get Stuart's graphics to match JR's template?

Synchronistic! I was just thinking that today. Sending hi-res photoshop files is going to be a bit cumbersome, but I think we can make it work. Stuart, if you're down with this, I'll send you a PM with some FTP info and we can go from there (?)

As to the idea of a puzzle, I think it's great! I would suggest that the covers are of the same style but with variations, like JR did on his three designs, and that it's just the spines together that form the "puzzle". When someone gets the whole series, they would see the puzzle come together.

Would it be nutty to have the FOTCM logo be the completed "puzzle" on the spines of the books of the completed series? The Wave was the foundation that eventually led to the creation of the FOTCM - my 2 cents, fwiw.

Edit:
The logo could be the black and white version instead of the official colors - less problem with the overall color of the book?

There are many good design concepts. JonnyRadar's are really good and the others, IMHO #2, #3, #9 for Riding the Wave seem best (although #1 is also good for image contrast / "punch"). For Soul Hackers, the last 3 could definitely work with some reworking. I think JR's approach should be considered in terms of having some core design elements present on all covers, such as same font and certain text (A Wave Book) in the same place, as well as the visual elements in general tying them all together, etc.

Stuart's first cover for Riding the Wave is REALLY great! But I agree that it's more appropriate for Soul Hackers.

And Alien's idea for a puzzle that forms on the spines is excellent.

Just thought that I'd let the forum know JohnnyRadar and I will be collaborating and we'll see what we can up with. :cool2:

In the meantime here's some more ideas:

Approaching Infinity, Laura, et al,

Are the names and subtitles of each book going to be the same as they are now? Perhaps knowing this in advance could help Stuart and I come up with a more consistent theme as we work on these ideas - i.e. knowing which images (earth, people, etc...) to use for which covers - and thus each one could be more appropriate.

What made me think of this is that you probably don't want a picture of the earth on every book, or shadowy people, a brain, DNA etc... Once we are able to determine a consistent theme we can tailor each central image to the topic of each book and make sure they're unique. Knowing the name and subtitle that will be used would help to determine this...

The first three books will be titled as I listed them in the first post of this thread. The rest of the books will have the titles they have now, but with additional subtitles, which haven't been written yet.

Ok, thanks :)

I like the background of the first two new covers, like this one:

soulhack3.jpg

And the image of the red evil waves emanating from the head on the bottom right of this one:

Its seems like someone who's controlling/draining energy away from men/earth, very pointing assuming it was the intention here.

Great graphics and lettering guys, they're all awesome works!!

Definetely great work guys and that there is a working together is simply excellent! (an example I haven't seen a long time and also don't know in design-work)

And a suggestion:
Something came up as I looked at the new versions (soul hackers), if there is a possibility to have more soul hackers on it, so to speak? Currently it looks like a one-on-one situation, one person drains another, but which person drains from whom? And it looks also a little bit too friendly to me, for comparison, this example is somehow more minatory.

My two cents. :)

Hi everyone, JohnnyRadar and I would like to showcase our cover for Riding the Wave and would appreciate any feedback:

I've been following the designs with some interest.
I actually said 'Oh wow!' outloud when I saw this new one. Good job both of you :)
