I was wondering if someone can point me in the right direction. I have seen many mentions of Carl Jung's theory of Shadow pertaining to parts of our self we don't want to accept. I was wondering what is around to read on this topic. I have tried searching Jung books on Amazon and cannot ascertain which to read covering this or related topics.

Will be grateful for any assistance.

Daenerys,

thank you but the link does not work for me. I searched google and found no books. I went to wikipedia and there are books about the topic but I wanted to read Jung's literature rather than someone else's interpretation.

Thanks daenerys.

The article was interesting and I checked out Aion but it is not available where I am nor on kindle. I found some other books by him and will just have to order several.

Regards.

Man and His Symbols is an overview of his work. You'll find the concept of the shadow there. It is a good starter as it is a book where you don't have to be familiarized with his previous works:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Man-Symbols-Carl-Gustav-Jung/dp/0613922670/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1334054195&sr=1-1

Illustrated throughout with revealing images, this is the first and only work in which the world-famous Swiss psychologist explains to the layperson his enormously influential theory of symbolism as revealed in dreams.

I read it a long time ago and found it very comprehensible and useful. Well, even though it is attributed to Jung, I think he only wrote certain chapters.

Another one that might help is Jung's essay 'Anima and Animus' in Two Essays on Analytical Psychology. That is written by Jung, but I've only read Von Franz's and Esther Harding's take on the topic.

Here's a pretty good overview.

Man and His Symbols is definitely the book to start with (as far as books go). As described above, it's the only book that is for the layperson (not other analysts). Jung wrote 1 chapter and his colleagues wrote a the rest while he was the editor.

Overall, it's a very good overview of Jung's ideas. Once you get a handle on all the different aspects of the unconscious, it will be much easier to understand his other writings. FWIW.

Hello dear one,
I've recently been familiar with theory of Carl Gustav Jung of personality types and archetypes. Are C.G Jung works recommended to be read? What does C's say about it? I read somewhere in the forum that C's have said to read it along with Gurdjieff's.
Does "personality types" work us in a direct way to know ourselves according 4th way teaching and C's teaching?
By the way do you know works of Joseph Campbell?
Thank you seekintruth, you have always answered my questions kindly.

Hi abeofarrell, I did not read a direct book by Jung about the topic but this book wrote by two Jungian psychologists have a good approach to the theory of Shadows as part of ourselves https://www.amazon.es/Romancing-Shadow-Guide-Vital-Authentic/dp/0345417402

Maybe it can be helpful as introduction to this topic.

I encountered this interesting article:

Essential Secrets of Psychotherapy: What is the "Shadow"?
Understanding the "dark side" of our psyche.

Here is another good article on the Shadow by The Society of Analytical Psychology:

I also found a series of lectures given by Jordan Peterson on Jung: The first one can be found here:

Here is a shorter one on integrating the shadow self: _https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iDQ8DiP_Y_A

There is a forum thread discussing Joseph Campbell’s Power of Myth that you might find interesting: https://cassiopaea.org/forum/index.php/topic,8321.msg84064.html#msg84064

The videos posted on the thread are no longer available, but you can watch them on this site:
