Very interesting phenomenon here, folks :P

At approximately the 1:20 mark of Ben Davidson's update for today, 25 October 2014, he remarks on a curious anomaly captured during Astronomy Live's viewing / filming of the partial solar eclipse at sunset on 23 October (originally posted here showing 2 strange sets of blob-like objects moving, roughly parallel to each other, toward and across the huge sunspots, then onward over to and beyond the right edge of the sun) ... hmmm, very interesting indeed :cool2:

Thats is very weird. They look like solid objects but I think this may be put into question with how they exit the contour of the sun, as if a bubble surfaced to the outside, don't know how else to put it, but the strangest part IMO is precisely when they 'skim' off the visible area.

Maybe this could suggest an artifact, for instance resulting from slow changing of the angle of the telescope while tracking the sun as it moves? Either something very close the star's surface or right in the device's lens. fwiw

Wow yea that is pretty freaky. I guess they actually could be balloons...the wind direction was ENE in Florida on the 23rd of October. Which could explain the general travel direction.

Actually at 3 miles distance from the scope, the distance of the island I mentioned in the webcast, a 6 inch balloon would be in focus and would be about the size of the objects seen here.

And this from AL could explain the size. Before I saw that I thought no way it would look huge on camera. But I know very little about optical phenomena through lenses so I dunno.

UFO near the sunspot at the partial solar eclipse?

Just saw this on youtube and thought you guys might find it interesting. Link below:

I was going about my daily news about the sun from this link:

_http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SkUoHD5l970&list=UUTiL1q9YbrVam5nP2xzFTWQ

When i saw the alleged UFO near the sunspot at the 1:20 onwards. The below link is the original youtube link.

Note: At 25:47 there is an unidentified flying object in front of the sun.

Not sure what it is but hell it sure is moving fast....... think cass mention about the orion
station or something at the sun. Don't know if it's the same or not?

The video links of yours are the same Leòmhann posted.

That's because A.K. hadn't noticed that there was a thread on the topic already, and he posted his own, which I merged with this one.

Intriguing video, by the way.

Re: UFO near the sunspot at the partial solar eclipse?

Eric, I hope it doesn't cause any stress. Sorry.
And thank you Windmill Knight. i really posted this without checking thoroughly. :headbash:

Interesting indeed.. i dunno if a couple of balloons between the lens and the sun at some distance might look like that.

If it is not a fake or balloons, but actually something that is fairly close to the sun, I think it behaves interesting and not really like solid objects. Maybe some kind of plasma phenomenon?

:-) I'm sorry too for assuming you did post it in the same thread.. when it was your own post merged into this one by a mod/admin.

Yes, a plasma phenomenon was my first thought. And if the "objects" are relatively close to the sun, whatever they are, their speed is very fast...

edit: objects in quotes

It is difficult to say if those things are close to the Sun or not because with a focus at infinity, a closer object would appear nearly sharp as well (like the edge of the moon in this case). This is an example of an image where the Sun and a passing airplane appear relatively sharp to the eye:

Plane-crossing-the-sun-580x432.jpg

They don't look like satellites, they don't look like balloons, and they don't look like airplanes. Maybe flying witches? :D
In any case, if this person was the only one who observed these things, it means that it was a local phenomenon.
If they are UFOs, it is interesting that the observation occurs right before a solar eclipse, which corresponds to Jessup's remark that Earth-Sun-Moon alignments favor favor manifestation.

Should those objects also have been observed by the the STEREO satellites for example, if they were close to the Sun? If that is not the case, I would guess that it means that whatever it was, that it maybe indeed was between the linse of the camera and the satellites? I guess it also depends on how much pictures those Stereo satellites shoot in one minute. If that number is low, it could be that they were not able to catch those objects as the amateur did.

Not exactly the STEREO satellites because of their location in their orbit (they are actually almost on the other side of the Sun and it will be impossible to receive their signals during a few months in 2015): _http://stereo-ssc.nascom.nasa.gov/where/where_is_stereo.gif
SDO and SOHO on the other hand are Earth related (more SOHO than SDO) so if there is something very close to the Sun they should be able to view it. The rate of acquisition is indeed another issue. For instance, SDO gives one image every 12 minutes, so it's a matter of luck :)

However, given that it was an eclipse day, I would imagine that hundreds or thousands of amateurs across the US were observing the Sun. If something similar was observed by someone else, we should rapidly know.
