I agree that a direct war between US/NATO and Russia and/or WWIII is not likely. But fighting Russia to the last Ukrainian is what they'll pursue.

This is indeed one of the key paragraphs in his analysis - I have been wondering about it for a while - my thinking on it is that this implies some sort of deep state global plan where the US/Russia/Ukraine is a set up for further plans - shifting the power to the east and blowing up the west - BRICS and all other initiatives part of that global plans - OR it means that there is some red line agreement btw US and Russia not to take off the gloves to avoid WW3. If the thesis is that WW3 was never on the table it could indicate that Russia and the US are patsies in a deeper plan.

Yeah, i think they are also "talking" to Russia now, just as a strategy to regroup, and plan their next offensives besides an escalation of the Ukrainian situation at a later date. Pepe Escobar has a good article on it covered on Sott today :

http://www.sott.net/article/296661-Why-the-US-is-finally-talking-to-Russia

Current situation in Macedonia is an example of what they might try to repeat in Central Asia, while at the same time antagonising China through Japan & South Korea, and also through South-East Asian nations bordering the Straits of Malacca & South China Sea where China receives most of its energy shipments...anything & everything to shaft the plans for Eurasian integration

Definitely do trust the Empire to actually go for peace - something is definitely "brewing"... good thing is, im sure Putin and his team definitely know the Empire's game well, and will play along but never really conceding any of their positions....

One of the points in the sitrep is : DPR Foreign Affairs chief: Novorossiya project closed for the time being! - with any further comment. It seems there is little reporting on this fact - which might be important. The only english speaking source I have found is a pro ukrainian.

Russian-backed 'Novorossiya' breakaway movement collapses - Russian-backed 'Novorossiya' breakaway movement collapses

Oleh Tsarev, a former Ukrainian MP and head of the ‘Novorossiya' group said the concept of such a union failed because of the Ukrainian government influence in the cities of Odesa, Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk. Aleksander Kofman, the minister of Foreign Affairs of so-called Donetsk People Republic said ‘if citizens of Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Odesa think that the Donetsk People's Republic should come and free them from the Ukrainian junta, and they will do nothing – that's not fair. We cannot decide for them'.

Oleh Tsarev is based in Russia and organizes from there - could this indicate that RF has given up on the idea?

This is why 'Saker stuff' should be taken with lots of salt:

In other words, everybody is preparing for the war with the full understanding of the outcome of that war. The maneuvers of the actual players in the conflict hiding behind the leaders in Kiev, Donetsk, and Lugansk are aimed at being able to convincingly blame the opponent for the renewal of the fighting, its inevitable escalation and increased gore. Yes, Moscow and Brussels do not need the war in Ukraine. Yes, it would be desirable to find a peaceful solution. But because Washington is intent on fighting, and Kiev has no choice but to fight, the start of the second phase of the civil war in Ukraine could be postponed, the army of Novorossia could be prepared so that to avoid officially deployment of the Russian army, but the war cannot be canceled.

London and Paris wanted the USSR to battle with Germany in 1939. Stalin wanted to delay the start of the war until at least May of 1942 (by that time the Soviet army was expected to complete the rearmament). The war started in 1941. Obviously, Putin would be happy to postpone the conflict until 2017. By that time there would be a good chance to gain control over Ukraine without the escalation and without more losses. It is equally obvious that the US would have preferred Russia to start fighting in April-May of 2014. It seems that Russia managed to avoid getting directly involved in the conflict but this will have to be paid for by a full-scale (from Lvov to Kharkov and from Kiev to Odessa) civil war in Ukraine in 2015.

In prior paragraphs, the author seems to be talking about an escalation of the conflict within Ukraine, but note how suggestively he conflates it with the inevitability of another world war.

Tit for tat

Russia cancels US route to Afghanistan and 'The agreement between the Ukraine and Russia on the transit of Russian military units temporarily stationed in the territory of Moldova through Ukrainian territory that was signed in 1995 has now been cancelled. - http://thesaker.is/ukraine-sitrep-may-21th-2015-by-scott/

Russia plans to sell S300 anit missile defense to Iran and ' Moscow says it will retaliate if Ukraine hosts US anti-missile defenses - http://www.sott.net/article/296707-Moscow-says-it-will-retaliate-if-Ukraine-hosts-US-anti-missile-defenses

On this last one - wasn’t Netanyahu saying the same when the Russian announced they would sell the S300 anti missile systems to Iran, and wasn’t Putin then using the argument that Putin did not need to worry as these systems are purely defensive?

See: Netanyahu whines after Putin briefs him on defensive weapons concept http://www.sott.net/article/295232-Netanyahu-whines-after-Putin-briefs-him-on-defensive-weapons-concept

It seems they killed Mozgovoy today:

http://russia-insider.com/en/breaking-rebel-leader-alexey-mozgovoy-assassinated/ri7308
“Ghost” brigade commander Alexey Mozgovoy, along with his spokeswoman and two bodyguards, has been killed in an ambush, according to LifeNews. There seems to be confirmation from other sources as well. ...

Here is a bit more (sorry for the source!)
_http://www.interpretermag.com/ukraine-life-day-460-russian-backed-separatist-leader-mozgovoy-reported-assassinated/

LNR Prosecutor Confirms Killing of Prizrak (Ghost) Commander Mozgovoy
18:43 (GMT)

The Prosecutor General's Office of the self-proclaimed "Lugansk People's Republic" has confirmed the killing of Prizrak Brigade Commander Aleksei Mozgovoy, Gazeta.ru reported.

As we reported earlier, LifeNews, a pro-Kremlin TV station close to Russian intelligence and law-enforcement, was first to report the assassination.

The Lugansk Information Center, citing Deputy Prosecutor General Sergei Gorenko, made the report, saying six others traveling with Mozgovoy were also likely killed in the attack. His title in the report was given "commander of the 4th Territorial Defense Battalion," which was the centralized LNR army which his brigade was forced to join in April.

"At the present time it is known about the deaths of seven persons, but this is not exact. The identities of those killed are being established."

There has been speculation about whether he was killed by Ukrainian forces, as Russian-backed separatists have claimed, or by LNR forces, whom he defied, as was believed to be the case with the assassination in January of Aleksandr Bednov, known by his call-sign "Batman," also commander of a battalion.

Gazeta.ru reported, citing Russian Defense Ministry TV Zvezda, that President Petro Poroshenko issued awards for valor in combat today right after Mozgovoy's assassination, which strengthened the belief that Ukrainian forces were behind the attack. ...

Wikipedia already reflects the fact:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aleksey_Mozgovoy
Aleksey Borisovich Mozgovoy (Russian: Алексе́й Бори́сович Мозгово́й, Ukrainian: Олексі́й Бори́сович Мозгови́й, Oleksiy Borisovich Mozhovyj; born 3 April 1975, dead 23 May 2015) was a pro-Russian separatist in Eastern Ukraine. He was leader of the rebel battalion "Prizrak".

Don't know what to think of Mozgovoy's death as far as who is behind it. It's very sad though, as he was very outspoken against corruption in all places.

Here are a couple of posts on it from Saker:

I am pondering on the role/tasks of that 300 (or so) US parachute troopers/instructors. What additional tasks they would have along with instructing (just a cover?), or more probably securing Porosh due to possible dismounting of neo-nazis troops? Maybe assassinations of Novorussian leaders?

FWIW
