The number of people killed because of a strong storm in northwest Pakistan has risen to 45, officials said.

Mushtaq Ghani, Information Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, said Monday the latest figures and said that several hundred people are hospitalized.

The storm Sunday night brought heavy rain and winds of up to 120 kilometers per hour (75 miles per hour, which collapsed houses, uprooted trees and downed power poles. Mohamed Hanif, an official of the meteorological agency said the unusual storm also caused tornadoes.
