A recurring dream

I had a dream this morning that I thought I would post. I've had dreams similar to this in the past where I've gone to pull my teeth and I end up just pulling and pulling. The tooth comes out and I just pull and pull on an endless cord. It seems never ending and I usually wake up,

In this dream I was with a former friend who I was very close to but we went or separate ways. He had alcocohol and drug addictions and had blamed me through his family for a lot of his problems. I don't know if this is significant but I had talked about him during my evening at work.

I was with my friend at a football match and we ended up going back to a party. Everyone was drunk and high on drugs though there was no evidence of the substances during the dream just the feeling. We were celebrating the victory and my friend had starting making fun of me In a condescending way in front of a group of people. I was kind of out of control and in a real mess, I felt kind of helpless and paranoid in this vulnerable state.

I then proceeded to put my hand in my mouth and my teeth began to crumble out. I continue to pull and I'm pulling on an endless cord while all around just look on in horror. It seems endless like I emptying my whole body. Eventually this comes to an end theirs all the stuff I've pulled out on the floor next to me. This was different in respect to I've never got to the end of the cord before.

I sat in the middle of all these people and they're horrified I've made such a mess in the plush surroundings. They want to move me out of the way and I ask them if I can't just put What I've removed back in. They didn't let me do this and we're moving me out of the building. I awoke as my former friend and his acquaintances were moving me out of the building. It was a glass fronted building and my sister was at the other side of some revolving doors trying to get in to help me.

It was an intense dream and I wondered if anyone had any thoughts on it.

Sounds to me that something might be bothering you, either consciously or unconsciously, in your real life and in the dream it might be expressed as pulling teeth.

Is there currently something in your life, that you think could be connected with that dream?

That's quite an intense dream, Thebull. I never had myself one of those tooth-pulling dreams or any dreams dealing with teeth.

Recurring dreams sometimes mean that they hold some importance to you personally because of something unresolved or your subconscious is trying to get your attention again and again to look at some issues that are affecting your life.

I'm just looking at the teeth symbolism - could mean a number of things. For one, it could represent a certain appearance or outlook or confidence (things you say to yourself or how you feel about yourself). Could it be that you're trying to remove something out of yourself that that you (your "characters" in the dream) don't like seeing or don't want to see - some form of embarrassment? Could there be a lack of self-confidence in some situation or area in life that seeped into this dream?

Anyway, that's my thought at the moment, and I echo Pashalis's post.

Well, as you probably know, dream symbolism is always personal and depends on what specific things signify for you. But some of the symbols are also pretty much straightforward, like for example the general feel of your dream seems to be that you are surrounded by "unclear/intoxicated" thoughts. It could be a message from your subconscious to be aware, including offering a possible solution. Teeth appear to be part of the solution. It seems like perhaps you are in the position to make significant changes in your life and your subconscious is alerting you to it.

Regarding teeth, some time ago I stumbled upon the following blog post that had a lot of insightful things to say about the symbolic meaning of teeth problems. I recommend reading the entire post, but here is a quote:

If you consult Louise Hay’s book, “Heal Your Body,” you’ll find that teeth represent “decisions” or “longstanding indecisiveness. Inability to break down ideas for analysis and decisions.” A root canal means: “Can’t bite into anything anymore. Root beliefs being destroyed.” Abscess: “fermenting thoughts over hurts, slights and revenge.” I’ve had clients for whom teeth represented “vulnerability,” “structures” and “personal power.” It’s also worth noting that meridians run through each tooth, so the specific tooth in question relates to whatever issues connect to that meridian. You can find a cool dental meridian chart by clicking here. Hovering over each tooth pops up a chart with related organs and positive/balanced vs. negative emotions associated with that specific tooth.

Given everything happening in our world today — the failing of most major societal, political, financial and ecological structures; an increasing sense of vulnerability to a Fascist Police State; bizarre weather patterns and End Times prophecies; and psychopathic corporations hellbent on telling us we want things that most awake people really, really do not want — it’s no wonder I’m hearing from so many people with dental issues. To varying degrees, we seem to have seen through the mirage of all the old structures, yet we’re not fully embodying and inhabiting the New.

Like the others, the teeth appear to be linked to a revival. A problem you face. When the baby loses his teeth, that's évouler.
Rope, seems to me to mean this:

Can not leave your past. The rope connects you to your past. You can cut the rope, as do many people. But it would mean to me, you do not dare move (evolve)or purrifier you.
The strings that come out of the mouth, can mean, vocal cords. If your vocal cords are long, it would indicate again that you realize your past problems. "In the beginning was the speak [...] In the beginning was the verb ...". Just make a choice! Switching off voice and Codre forgotten, or leave to see your injuries? This is just my opinion.

Some teeth symbolism I've read about is that when you dream your teeth are falling out and you see new teeth coming up, it means a positive change or transformation in your life, personality or environment. In your case, you're pulling your teeth out, which might be that you're trying to get rid of old habits or trying to change in some way, but regardless of how hard you try, you can't seem to get there or you can't seem to get support from others while you're trying. Wild guess here, though!

I agree with the others that there may be some unresolved issue/s that's attempting to get your attention. Is it possible that you have some unresolved feelings/thoughts regarding your former friend or who you were at that time in your life?

To me, the dream signifies a compromise or shedding of old skin, perhaps a life changing scenario in your waking life is becoming apparent? The former friend's presence signifies an aspect of you that you're shedding, the loss of teeth is the anxiety we face from change.

I see this as a positive portent! (We need our teeth though, don't compromise too much.)

Some thoughts for your consideration.

Metaphor of "pulling teeth" is something hard to do and painful. A cord usually connects things. If in your dream one end of the endless cord is connected to the teeth then it seems like you are pulling out something which has a deep connection.

Sometimes, going back to old milieus and friends in dreams indicate falling back into old patterns of thinking and behaving.

Teeth are tools for chewing and digesting food. They are also weapons used for aggressive or defensive purposes.

When you were under stress in that environment, you did not stand up for yourself. Instead you went back (regressed) to a helpless, vulnerable state. You pulled your teeth which crumbled. Becoming toothless is a metaphor for powerlessness.

The group was horrified but apparently you were not. You had pulled stuff out of your body and was asking permission from them whether you couldn't just put everything back.

Glass buildings and doors allow us to see what is going on outside but there is a separation. It can be interpreted as a more intellectual way of looking at things without real involvement. A feminine figure here is trying to approach to provide help but cannot, and is stuck behind revolving doors.

One way to look at all this (not the only way) is "you" in the dream is your ego consciousness or personality, with the other participants as different representations of your unconscious. The message seems like one of the ego being reduced to a powerless state by one's own actions. Something like self-sabotage. There seems to be a lack of healthy instinctive behavior patterns. Not standing up for oneself when being unfairly treated to start with, making oneself toothless, like a regression to an infantile state. The feminine element, which usually stands for feeling and relating appropriately, cannot get in through the glass doors to provide help.

If any of these dynamics ring a bell, then do pay attention. This is not a dream that can just be ignored imo. If you work on it, you will very likely receive more insight into the situation.

Thank you all for taking the time reading your responses has been incredibly helpful. I have been drawn to a certain conclusion and I think this dream is a warning to address something that has come up recently.

About 6 months ago I started working in my friends pub/restaurant a family run business. I moved here from a corporate environment so it's been a big change. They worked a balanced shift pattern to suit me and my family's needs and the business giving me some key time to spend with my family.

Origionally I worked 12 - 6 on a Tuesday and about 2 months ago they asked me to work one Tuesday night every 2 weeks so one of the owners could get a night off. It wasn't really discussed with me but I went along with the change. Last Tuesday I went to work and they said they wanted to work every Tuesday night as the guy who had been doing it wasn't up to scratch. We are extremely busy and these things are discussed in passing. The owners (who are friends) said it is a temporary measure. I have been getting frustrated as it's something that should be discussed before any changes are made. I have also had mixed messages from the owners whether it's a temporary change or permanent one.

My wife wasn't too happy about the change and I haven't managed to arrange a meeting to discuss it with them yet though I have been meaning to. It's been less nearly a week now since the changes were made now.
I worked in a family business from school and it was a very negative experience for me in my early working life. I think the dream is a warning for me to assert myself and take control of this situation.

Of course this may not be the case but it is something I need to address Asap.

Thank you all again for your responses they have been a great help. I still need to read the dream work thread that has been recommended.

Yes that seems to be the main message. Do you see a connection to what you brought up here, about your recent problems with your hands?
There is a good chance IMO, that there could be a connection...

Tbh currently I don't see a connection with the hand issue. Saying that lets see how this plays out as I'm going to arrange to speak with my bosses tomorrow. I don't know if there's anything underlying from their perspective thinking that they can just change my hours without discussing with me. It will be good to have a discussion and get it sorted out. Maybe not all is at it seems I'll have to wat and see.

If I take a step back I've had the hand issue and the torn bicep which strikes me as something trying to get my attention. It maybe a big red flag IMHO now. The work hours changes have caused friction with my wife And I've probably not dealt with this as I should. On a personal note I probably feel that I'm just getting carried along and it's time I got my hands back on the reins.

I've discussed the change in my work hours with my bosses and all seems fine. The change in hours is temporary until they find someone who can run the bar effectively in my absence. There's been a lack of communication between us all.

Looking at my recent health problems I'm not 100% certain that this is the only issue. I am physically fit but from the shingles to the torn bicep I feel now something is amiss and I am been warned. I've said for a while now I need to get my diet in order but have been struggling to cut my carb intake.

Due to the arm injury I will have to stop training for a while and I think I need to take stock and find out where I am mentally. I am so busy at work on my days off I just like to spend with my son. I don't know if I'm disassociating during the spare time I do have through alcohol (I enjoy a drink) and over eating. I'm sure beginning meditation again will give me some clarity.

Food for thought for me I think.

Hello TheBull,
Here's something to consider as well.

Mercury is toxic to humans and dental amalgam fillings, which uses a 50% mercury base combined with other metals, is one of the most common types of exposure. Research proving the extensive damage mercury can cause to human tissue and brain function is why I advocate discontinuing their use and, if you have them, their removal. The following 10 facts expose the dangers of mercury amalgam and, after reading these, you will probably want to confirm what type of filling material your dentist uses - and possibly make a change!

Thank you Okiron I do have Mercury fillings of old which is something to consider.

I have been to see the specialist today regArding my torn bicep and the prognosis wasn't great.
Looks like the ligament has severed completely from my elbow so I have been booked in for an ultra sound scan and to see the specialist next Wednesday.

The doctor I saw said my strength could be down 50 % in a straight curl and 80% in supination. I genuinely can't and won't try and lift anything but I am still working. I've read that if you have the op to pin it back on it needs to be done within 2 to 3 weeks and I'll be getting close to that when I see the specialist next week.

I am very concerned about this as it looks like a severe injury that will effect my daily life! I'll have to see what the specialist in orthopaedics tells me next week. The dr I saw today said it is a tricky operation to re- attach the ligament/tendon as you can effect nerves etc.

I'm quite worried about this now as the longer it's left the tendon/ligament can shorten so won't be able to reattach it. :scared: anyway I'll just have to process what's happened not much I can do before the next scan and seeing the specialist.
