This is a great old James Cagney film. He is great as a gangster as usual. But at the 37 minute mark, as he is going in to see "Doc", you see the sign outside Doc's house, "Philosophic Guide" with Ouspensky mentioned. Then at 42 minutes as he gets a ride from a girl from the philosophy meeting, they talk about what the meeting was about and discuss 4D. I have seen this movie before and had never noticed this, but my husband had watched it again this week and pointed this out to me.

I will definitely be watching this again. And do some research on the writers/producers.

Recall reading somewhere about a Gurdjieff-based discussion group that met in the Hollywood area around the mid-1950s. Mary Astor and another silent film actress who retired in San Francisco - forgot her name - were a part of it.
