In our old neighborhood in Florida, we had a neighbor who was obsessed with his lawn and his reputation for the best holiday decorations on our street. We heard from another neighbor that he believed it was his job to "set the standards" for the neighborhood since his house and lawn were, as he put it, the "Flagship of the Neighborhood." Well, we live in The Chateau that belongs to a small village and we realized that WE were now the "Flagship of the Neighborhood" whether we liked it or not. And so, duty obliged us to put up an outdoor decoration. You see it above. Following the mounting of our exterior light, the village council apparently voted to erect two strings of lights across the road through the village, one at the beginning of the village, and one at the end. The fleet of which we are Flagship isn't very large - the two strings of lights were only about 500 meters apart! |
