Last night the volcano Fuego in Guatemala started to erupt with a big explosion. At the same time a huge explosion in Hawaii triggered a magnitude 5.5 tremor. A quake watch is in effect in the next several days due to more critical interplanetary geometry. Details are not revealed due to plagiarism on the internet.

At least three people have been confirmed killed and more casualties are feared, after a magnitude 6.1 earthquake hit north of Osaka Prefecture in western Japan, local media report.
An 80-year-old man and a young 9yo girl were killed in Japan, crushed by collapsing walls, public broadcaster NHK reported. Several others are reported in a state of "cardiopulmonary arrest," a condition usually used by Japanese authorities until a formal examination has been conducted to confirm death.
At least 217 people were injured, mainly across the northern Osaka and neighboring prefectures, the broadcaster reports, citing data from local police and fire departments.
Some 170,000 households remain without power in Osaka, as well as neighboring Hyogo prefecture, according to local electricity operator Kansai.
Besides electricity outages, at least one house caught fire and several major water pipes burst following the quake, according to footage shown by local TV. The jolt struck during the Monday morning rush hour, and forced a halt to some rail services. As a precaution, flights were also delayed in Osaka airport.
While there were no reports of widespread damage, Japanese authorities are still assessing the impact, with PM Shinzo Abe emphasizing that the safety of residents is the government’s top priority at the moment.

Time for the Big One? Research suggests risk of California earthquake higher than previously thought

Geophysicists are hypothesizing that the San Andreas fault line in California could be the central point of a massive earthquake after new research suggested that the fault may be at higher risk than previously thought.
Researchers at Arizona State University have published a new study looking at the likelihood of a 7.5-magnitude (or stronger) quake occurring and rupturing the entire fault line.
It has long been thought that the central section of the fault line, which stretches 90 miles from San Juan Bautista southward to Parkfield, was creeping steadily in such a way that provided for the safe release of energy. That “creeping” movement, scientists believed, lessened the chances of a huge quake rupturing the entire fault line — but new research casts doubt over old assumptions.
‘Slow earthquakes’
The researchers found that the fault line has seen a sequence of “stick-and-slip” movements, or “slow earthquakes,” which release energy over a number of months. These slow earthquakes pass without being noticed by people, but they can trigger larger and more destructive quakes in the region.
"What looked like steady, continuous creep was actually made of episodes of acceleration and deceleration along the fault," said Mostafa Khoshmanesh, a graduate research assistant in the ASU's School of Earth and Space Exploration (SESE) and the lead author of a paper on the new research.
Another researcher, Manoochehr Shirzaei, who is the co-author of the paper, explained that the movement on the fault began every “one to two years” and then lasted for several months before ceasing. The pattern of these slow quakes led to “increased stress” on other segments of the fault, north and south of the central section.
The scientists found that the central part of the fault has an average movement of about three centimetres a year — or just over an inch. The distance sometimes varies, they said, some years moving by as much as four inches.
Higher risk
The authors of the research say that their findings are significant because they have uncovered a new kind of earthquake-triggering movement which is not accounted for in the current models of prediction used in the state.

Shirzaei said that, based on the new observations, he believes the seismic hazard in California is something that varies over time but is “probably higher than what people have thought up to now."
So when is it going to happen? Well, that’s the big question.
No one really knows, but Khoshmanesh explained that based on current models, there’s a “75 percent chance” of a magnitude 7 or larger quake in northern and southern California “within the next 30 years.”

A small earthquake happened yesterday in the Laurentians in Québec.

And a funny coincidence happened to us. We were having a friend over, and the exact time of the quake, my partner was pulling the kitchen curtains on the patio door for our friend to see our fabulous back garden, and the exact rime the curtain rod jumped out from the rod holder and felll on our friends head. We cant say that we felt the earth move but nothing could explain why the curtain rod fell. Afterwards I was so stunned I tryed several times to make the rod fall again, and there was no way?!
An hour later we saw the news of the quake that had just happened 15km from here. As it was only a 3,4 on the scale there are no reports of damage.

A powerful 6.0 earthquake has struck off the Pacific Coast of Mexico, the USGS reports. The quake, according to an initial reading, happened offshore at a depth of 10 kilometers, some 58 kilometers west of Cihuatlan, in the state of Jalisco. No tsunami warning has yet been issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

The quake, according to an initial reading, happened offshore at a depth of 10 kilometers, some 58 kilometers west of Cihuatlan, in the state of Jalisco. No tsunami warning has yet been issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

The quakes are all occurring in the same spot, about 50 km (31 miles) to the east of the island. The largest so far was M5.8 on May 15. This quake was also the largest ever recorded in the archipelago.
"The seismic activity remains abnormal and persists," scientists working for the Bureau de Recherches Géologiques et Minières (BRGM), the France-based geological agency serving the territory, said July 2.
