Ahmed Hulusi and Sufism

Hello everyone,

Last Saturday I gave a talk at a pre-school and I met one of the attendees that was very interested in what I'm presenting and she in turn introduced to me Ahmed Hulusi and directed me to this website: _http://www.ahmedhulusi.org/en/ and also pass to me a PDF book "Know Yourself" which is also available from the website under Books.

I am currently going through the book and also some articles from the website which were very interesting.

Since I am relatively new, can I have help in discerning what is presented and start a discussion here?

Any help and comments are greatly appreciated.

Hi Starlight.
According to the website, Syed Ahmed Hulusi, born in Istanbul in 1945, is currently the most comprehensive author of Islamic philosophy in Turkey.

I don't see a Sufism reference mentioned in the thread title. Did I miss something? :)

Hi Bud,

Thanks for checking out the website. I had just finished watching his video on HOLOGRAPHIC UNIVERSE OF YOUR MIND which I found really interesting. He was talking about the self and the false self with human having two brains i.e - a "primary brain" and a "second brain" which is from your gut. I hope if you can take time to watch it and tell me what you think of it.

On Ahmed Hulusi and sufism, it was the first line in his Introduction from the book "Know Yourself" which was given to me by the lady that I met on Saturday. I have the link here: _http://download.ahmedhulusi.org/download/flashpaper/en/knowyourself_en.swf .

In fact I made a search in Wikipedia about Ahmed Hulusi and found that Wikipedia described him as:

Quote from Wikipedia:
"Ahmed Hulusi (born 1945 in Istanbul, Turkey) is a Turkish Islamic philosophical and religious author. He wrote his first book in 1965 at the age of 20 when he was enlightened. He has written more than thirty books on Islam and religious issues, despite receiving no specialized religious education in Islam. His books and tapes are published without copyright restrictions and are most popular among Turkish young people.[citation needed] He is a retired journalist and has lived in the United States since 1999."

and then in the end states:

"His writings are not accepted by conservative or traditional Islamic theologians. Several books by a few writers have set out to refute his ideas and to assert that his interpretation of Islam is false. His claim that the prophethood continues in the sense of messengerhood (risalat) is held to be blasphemy by many other religious leaders and writers both Islamic and Christian."

which spurs my interest even more! ;)

I looked through some of Ahmed Hulusi's writings. Specifically the book "KNOW YOURSELF", as I thought that by starting there I would be more likely to recognize any differences between Hulusi's writings and what I know from my study of the Work and my personal experience.

I was pleased to find no significant deviation between what he teaches and what I've learned about the Work so far. I like the way he explains the concept of 'unity' and why people stuck in the me-vs-them/us-vs-them mode cannot experience this.

Hulusi talks about how, although there is only one essential reality, people's words and statements may be seen as having multiple meanings, each referring to a different dimension, or different 'reality' and can be 'wrong' for a given context or discussion. The example given is of one person meeting another, exchanging comments that involve a knowledge of Islam and the Koran and how this requires a thoughtful contemplation of meanings before an answering statement is returned.

He seems to understand the difference between the literalist interpretations of the Koran and the multi-dimensional understandings of more mature individuals who are exercising their responsibility of becoming conscious of the Truth- an idea also discussed in a thread linked below.

As for the literalists, Hulusi describes how they may repeat affirmations and rote memorize statements, but as this is meaningless without pure observation, there will be no consciousness in the activity. As for the more mature, they understand that a single word can have many valid meanings, each pointing to a different reality (each meaning can be regarded as an independent reality since each meaning points to a separate reality according to the dimension to which they belong) and the task is to make the effort to grasp the essence of every single dimension so that he may understand the truth of this matter completely. ('Reality' as used here can be synonymous with 'level of abstraction' or a difference of context, for example).

Hulusi's take on imagination seems to correlate with Gurdjieff's. As mentioned above, I like how he talks about 'unity', or 'oneness' of Reality and the role that imagination plays in keeping people from realizing it. Essentially and on a fundamental level, we conceive ourselves as separate beings from each other and the Universe and since, for mechanical man, imagination controls the mental faculties and therefore has authority over our thoughts, we are 'tuned' to all impressions that reinforce this separateness, implicitly accepting ourselves as 'being' this way on no more grounds than a conjecture or guess based on speculation.

For those persons trying to gain the more mature understandings and have no recourse to a 'strategic enclosure' with respect to social interactions, Hulusi shows the 'out', so-to-speak. Compare the bolded parts in the two paragraphs below:

His claim that the prophethood continues in the sense of messengerhood (risalat) is held to be blasphemy by many other religious leaders and writers both Islamic and Christian."

So, all things considered, this same information can be gleaned from Gurdjieff's teaching system, the basic psychology books and anything William Chittick translated from Ibn 'Arabi (like "The Sufi Path of Knowledge").

In relation to your interest, you might find this thread fascinating!

Incidentally, it might be interesting to consider that by starting with the various recommended reading material, your range of knowledge in the various subject areas will more easily allow you to understand this stuff in more personal and contemporary ways and when you talk to others, you'll be more able to explain your knowledge in their frame of reference, whatever that may be. :)

Hi Bud and everyone,

Thank you Bud for taking time to look through Ahmed Hulusi's book "Know Yourself" and for your comments. The most confusing thing for me about Sufism is the "strategic enclosure" approach that is incorporated at all time.

I have just read this Article from his website called the Holographic Universe of Your Mind, which I found really interesting and the fact that it corresponds with the teachings of Gurdjieff. I quote part of the article here:

Holographic Universe Of Your Mind

Whether you chose to believe it or not, whether you manage to grasp it or not, there is one absolute scientific reality:

You live and dwell within your imagination and your imagination alone!

Electromagnetic waves transmitted to your mind via all of your senses are evaluated by your brain based on its existing platform of data, and create the multi-dimensional holographic world in which you live in. Regardless of who you are, you do not live or exist in the outside world - you live in the imaginary world that exists inside of your mind.

Everything that you sense or judge is no more than your perception of its existence.

Everyone exists and will continue to exist within his own universe for eternity. Your heaven and your hell are and will be as "real" as you consider your Universe to be real for you today.

All that exists in each of our Universe's is there based on the data that has been forming the core database of our minds... All that makes us happy, all that gives us grief or sorrow forms based on the judgments that define our database.

Now is the time for renewal!

It is time to discover the existence of your quantum potential; your cosmic awakening; and the multi-dimensional holographic existence created by the wave converter more commonly referred to as the mind! For those that have the will and capacity to comprehend, let this write-up serve to dispel all nonsense regarding quantum cafes, quantum healing and quantum cakes.

But first we must know this...

It is the time to completely reconstruct the message that has been passed down through the RasulAllah Mohammed aleyhessalaam, the Koran and all those that have awareness of what is real and true, through signs, examples, and metaphors. It is time to view this message in the light of all the scientific facts and hindsight available to us today.

For those that can understand, for those possessing a sufficient database - Absolute reality has been conveyed by the greatest mind to grace the earth, RasulAllah Mohammed Mustafa aleyhessalaam. For those that can READ, The Koran has voiced the absolute reality.

From Hz. Ali to all those that have awareness of what is real and true have sought to explain the way the universal system operates through examples by "READING" the information that was available to them from within.

Given the fact that the universal truth has been delivered to us time and time again through the use of examples, we too can analyze the topic further by way of a metaphor...

Let's assume that a present day modern man, a man that spends his day browsing the internet, communicating globally using internet telephony, aware of all that transpires across the global in minutes through real-time news flow, were to be "beamed" back in time a thousand years to a civilization that doesn't even have the use or knowledge of electricity. How would such a man explain the tools of our everyday life to those around him? How close to the truth would their perception be? How could they even begin to understand the depth and truth of what you are trying to describe?

So in years past, many have tried to communicate the universal systemic truth to us through the use of examples based on an informational database that we did not yet possess. Some were able to grasp the message relayed, however some who did not have the capacity to comprehend what was being proposed took the examples literally and never realized the true meaning of the message.

In that case what must be done without further delay is to put aside the myth that religion and science are two separate things and recreate the understanding of how religion describes the universal system through scientific fact!

The universal system as described by the scientific platform is none other than the system that has been described by men of Islam through examples and metaphors through what they have "READ" from within. The universal truth as described by the RasulAllah Mohammed aleyhessalaam, the Koran and all those that have awareness of what is real and true is in fact the truth that the scientists of today are trying to attain. It is for this reason that when we think of religion, we should be at the point of comprehending what has been attempted to be explained to us through examples instead of creating dreams of the metaphors themselves.

And what if we don't?

The burden of not evaluating the universal truth offered to us by Religion and scientific developments will lead to continuous suffering.

For those of us who don't manage to switch from the understanding of religion based on on a Lord God "up there", to an understanding of the universal systemic truth based on Allah, the inevitable end will be the dissolution of everything that we had held to be real.

The only path to the absolute truth is to comprehend the notion of "Allah" as described by the RasulAllah Mohammed aleyhessalaam. The Rasulallah doesn't speak of a God "up there" - he doesn't suggest that we reach out anywhere outside of yourself.

The Rasulallah is not a courier or messenger from a God "out there" onto us! He is the Rasulallah (The true voice of the universal reality).

If you want to delve into religion, you must do so not by gazing out into space or into the sky, but by looking within the depths of your mind, of your "self", by looking into the essence of your existence.

It is important to note that you can listen to and watch numerous informational videos regarding the topics that we will refer to from scientists from across the globe on www.okyanusum.com

The Quantum Potential... Multi fractal dimensions, existing as an illusion (a design platform); concepts like form (pattern), boundary or location are not in question; the creator of infinite meaning (essences), the infinite potential... The countless features in this potential are referred as the "Names of Allah". Here, there is no feature that exists individually. Through the meaning and reference of the name "Aliym" the quantum potential is aware and observes of its own infinite potential. This is the dimension referred to in Sufism as the dimension which observes its own knowledge, through it's own knowledge, within it's own knowledge. It is referred to this subject in the very first verses (ayahs) of The Holy Quran (Al-Fatihah-opening).

There is no such transfiguration or revelation or manifestation of this dimension.

The Cosmic Electromagnetic Dimension... It is a dimension that exists with and within the quantum potential's knowledge! It is the second dimension of delusion. It is the origin of all dimensions, an ocean of wave. All that is perceived or that cannot be perceived exists in this dimension in wave form. Brain's, or for lack of a better word, mind's of all sorts are the converters of this dimension. The phrase "Maliki yevmiddin" of the Fatiha refers to this dimension.

Minds... Exist as wave converters. The multi-dimensional holographic universes are created by these converters, and every individual exists whithin its own holographic universe all-the-while thinking that they exist on a material dimension. "İyyake na'bbudu ve iyyake nastaiyn" of the Fatiha refers to this occurrence.

The Soul... Is the name given to the aggregation of all the frequencies that make up what we refer to as "meaning". It is the core, the essence, the "spirit" of each existence. Every individual "lives" within... every individual's vitality depends on their existence - such that the knowledge of their existence is in fact their existence itself. The essence that every individual portrays is his soul. Therefore, the cosmic electromagnetic dimension is none-other than the soul of the universe itself.

Figuratively speaking, he quantum potential is "a point" harnessing the potential defined by the endless names of Allah. As described through our knowledge and science - a point from endless points. A point that exists within the inherent knowledge that we are blessed with - a fractal dimension that exists within endless dimensions.

It is an existence that immerges from features that have been symbolized through the names of Allah, as a form of every soul, and existences that observes its divinity through the very same features. The creator of "I" is the I, within each "I". It is an existence that cannot be contained within any form of perception. This creator of infinite magnificence is described in Islam as "ALLAHU EKBER"! It is only the above that provides the meaning of ALLAHU EKBER (not God is Great).

Can someone help me understand this sentence "The creator of "I" is the I, within each "I". It is an existence that cannot be contained within any form of perception." of the last para of the quote above? Thank you, really appreciate the help!

My understanding of the above is the attributes of created beings come from the divine attributes of the creator - so the creator lives within each of his creations. The opening words of the standard Islamic prayer is "la ilaha illa Allah" translated as "there is no god, only Allah". Sufism/islam does not accept the existence of a God separate from his creations. So Allah is within everything that is. This is similar to the idea of Prime Creator or 7D in the C's terminology - osit. The Prime Creator is beyond the complete perception of any created being but is within each aspect of creation.
