Bella opens doors

The Living Force
In this how-to video, Bella, our resident Maine Coon 3D candidate, shows the proper way to open a sliding door if you are a cat. We are waiting for the day when she tries this out on the back screen door, when it isn't unlocked.

If I remember correctly, the first time she opened this door we were trying to give her medicine and had closed all the doors we could. She hurried up to this one (from the other side), while it was fully closed, and ripped it open and walked through. Unfortunately, there was nowhere to go after that. One lesson at a time.

She learned from us catching her (we had to do it twice a day for quite some time) and became ever harder to catch. Fortunately for us she is in good health now and has no need for medicine.

When she isn't opening doors and cupboards, she likes to jump or climb into boxes. Big ones, small ones. The smaller the better.

How To Open A Door

Some time when I can catch it on video I will show you Cassie's (our other cat) drinking ritual and song. It's unusual.

Oh, that's cute! :) Cats are so resourceful (even without hands!), but she looks like she squeezed to half her size trying to get through that opening.

She will also climb into an open drawer, squeeze over the top of the back side of the drawer, and drop into the space below. It looks like it should be physically impossible, but she does it. She did this with a middle kitchen drawer and couldn't get back out. It took me a while, but I finally realized that she was now in the bottom drawer and all I had to do was close the middle drawer and open the bottom one. :)

She has diversified a bit lately and can now open my bottom filing cabinet drawer as well. She is curious, and likes to climb into tight spaces, and she knows how to use those paws.
