I want to post my recent experience with taking black seed oil and ask others if they have any experience with it.
I don’t really remember what made me decide to try it but I was feeling in general poor health and my nurse practitioner couldn’t find anything wrong in my health tests.
I started taking a teaspoon a day and in about 4 days I felt really good, better than I have felt in a couple of years. I noticed that I was breathing deeply without effort and there was a lot less hair in my brush when I cleaned it daily. I felt less anxiety and was getting more things done on my to do list. I was also feeling more social and more connected and loving toward people.
The only problem was that I was having vivid, troubling dreams every night. At first I didn’t connect this to the black seed oil but I stopped taking it for a few days and the dreams stopped. Then I did a search and a lot of people said they had bad dreams while taking it.
The problem is that my feeling of health has declined again since I stopped taking it.
I started again at a lower dose and the dreams returned so I immediately stopped again.
I had so many benefits that I really want to continue but I’m afraid of the dreams ,even though they weren’t exactly nightmares and actually seemed to be about important issues that I am not facing. Has anybody here had any experience with black seed oil? I’m wondering if the dreams might eventually stop or maybe I could learn to live with them.

I have been taking nigella (black cumin) seeds for the last 6 months, sprinkling them on my food at a rate of about 1g/day. Over the last month I increased the dosage to about 3-4g/day. In parallel I noticed more dreams: vivid, and precise in their "message".
They are not nightmares at all, and I generally welcome these dreams as they seem to help me in figuring out which parts of myself need still more work, as well as separating wheat from chaff in this troublesome period.

Thanks everyone! All the positive interesting information that lead me to research few more places but it seems like I need to try myself to find out if it really works for me or not. So, I just ordered “organic black cumin seed”. I don’t want to take oil, because I don’t know if the oil is 100 percent pure.

What Is Black Seed Oil?
Black seed oil is made from the seeds of the black cumin (Nigella sativa) plant, which belongs to the ranunculus family (Ranunculaceae). The black cumin plant is native to southwestern Asia, the Mediterranean and Africa.

It has been grown for centuries for its aromatic and flavorful seeds that can be used as a spice or as an herbal medicine.

This oil is also commonly called black cumin seed oil. Be careful, as black seed should not be confused with true cumin (Cuminum cyminum), black pepper, black sesame or black cohosh.

Quite possibly, the most promising research has been done connecting Nigella sativato multi-drug-resistant bacteria. This is a really big deal because these so-called “superbugs” are becoming a significant public health risk.

More than 90,000 of these patients die every year, up from 13,300 patient deaths in 1992.

Essentially proving that fungus and molds cannot exist in the presence of these phytochemicals, it is no wonder why researchers seek to solve the superbug problem with black seed oil.

8. Improves Fertility
In addition to possibly helping with hair loss, there are some other really impressive black seed benefits, like its ability to naturally improve fertility.

One randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial evaluated whether or not black seed oil could help infertile male subjects with abnormal sperm. The control group orally took 2.5 milliliters of black seed oil while the placebo group received the same amount of liquid paraffin twice a day for two months.

Another older randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was conducted with human subjects who had mild hypertension. There was a placebo group, a group that took 100 milligrams of black seed twice a day and a group that took 200 milligrams twice a day.

After eight weeks of this supplementation, researchers found that the people who took the black seed supplement had their systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure decrease in “a dose-dependent manner.” Additionally, the black seed extract supplement caused a “significant decline” in both total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol.

Overall, it appears that black seed may help lower cholesterol as well as blood sugar and blood pressure.


Is It Safe? Risks and Side Effects

Black seed may cause an allergic rash when taken by mouth or applied to the skin. Before using black cumin oil topically for your skin and hair, it’s a good idea to perform a patch test to make sure you don’t have a negative reaction to the oil.

Always avoid your eyes and mucous membranes when using black seed oil.

When taken internally, black seed oil side effects may include upset stomach, vomiting, or constipation. For certain individuals, it may increase seizure risk.

Talk to your doctor before using black seed oil if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, currently take any medication or have a medical condition (especially diabetes, low blood pressure or a bleeding disorder). I initially began taking it to help mitigate a bout of night time acid reflux, and it served well for that purpose. I continue to take it as it worked for my issue, and it has other health benefits. In particular I take it for liver health maintenance and digestive maintenance (both of which are closely intertwined with each other in older humans).

The only side effect I noticed really is it also inhibits my appetite, which is not a bad thing at all, and hence some modest weight loss over time. It also appears to have pretty well killed off my lifetime of sweet tooth too, which is particularly helpful in my case.

Some people do have allergic reactions, and there can be some interactions with medications, so best to consult with your health care provider and then step gently into use and be alert for any allergic reactions (anxiety, stomach upset, rash or itchiness).

Note: I take them in capsule form, as the taste is overwhelming to me and I would simply not take it if I was swallowing a teaspoon of the oil. I started taking 500mg once a day with a meal and then ramped up to 1000mg twice per day, with meals. Different people will have different tolerance levels in dosing, so I recommend "dialing in" on dosage over a period of a few weeks.
 
What brand do you buy? Do you know if it’s available online?

I buy mine online. It's not readily available in local stores where I live, though I can buy the oil at local Indian grocery stores, which is very difficult for me to choke down. 🤣

Mother Nature Organics brand is my preference. But given all the spot shortages in the supply chains these days, and the popularity of Black Seed Oil, I keep two backup sources at hand just in case, one source being Horbaach, and my back up for the backup is from Best Naturals. I have used all three, and they all work the same and feel the same for me. Bloodwork might show slight differences (liver enzymes) but probably down in the noise levels numbers wise.

My suggestion is to pick a brand the feels right to you, buy a small bottle and sample test it, ramping up in dosage slowly over a week or so. Then pick a "second best feeling one" and try that one as well. Then go with the one that seems best for you and is well priced. Happily Black Seed Oil is very expensive even in capsule form.
 
One question ?

How resiliant is Black seed oil when it comes to oxidation ? I wouldn’t want to store it really, if it is unstable oil. The reason for my question is that i occasionally bought other oils from health stores, only to realize they were oxidized (which is harmful to the body).

I settled for the seeds instead which have an exotic, interesting taste, without any unpleasantness.
 
I have been taking metformin for over a year, but recently dumped it in favour of Nigella seeds.
