I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to become aware of one of the greatest glass artists of our time, Dale Chihuly. Columbus, Ohio, is the home of the Franklin Park Conservatory, a venue that Dale Chihuly has embraced as a "canvas" for his artistic expression. The second of two major exhibitions has recently wrapped up while another, Chihuly Illuminated, continues at the Columbus Museum of Art. That exhibition includes a video presentation that is absolutely entrancing. The raw creative energy that flows and produces awe inspiring beauty in amazing works of glass and paint is something to behold. His creations have been showcased worldwide with one of limited time in Israel being viewed by well over a million people - Jews, Muslims, Arabs - all turning out in very long lines to admire his wondrous artistic creativity - http://www.pbase.com/amit_bronstein/migdal_david_jerusalem

Here are links that can be navigated to view many of the multitude of pieces he and his team have created: http://www.chihuly.com/

Such a vast difference between the creative power of humanity versus the massive destructive power of humanity. May the gift of art touch your soul.

Wow, those are simply stunning! I was just on vacation in Columbus last week, I'm so sad that I missed this! Truly beautiful, thanks for sharing.

Wow! Amazing!!

So they can HAARP us, inject us with poisons, dumb us down in their institutions, etc, etc, but still some choose to create such awesome works of art.

Gives me hope.

Thanks for the thread. :)

Although looking at all that delicate glass makes me feel a little nervous, it sure is beautiful!!

When the first major Chihuly exhibit came to the Franklin Conservatory, a local TV station created a very in-depth video on Chihuly. which was aired on television. Unfortunately, I wasn't aware of it and consequently, missed the opportunity to videotape it. However, the video was being shown at the Conservatory during the exhibit. It was totally fascinating. It did show the glass components being made, especially the tubular twisty, spiral ones that make up the huge chandelier-type works. I guess not too surprisingly, there is a lot of breakage that occurs. It was really quite painful to watch. The pieces would be all but finished and then CRACK--shattered to bits! It was quite unnerving.

At the current exhibit at the Columbus Art Museum is another video that shows how the pieces are put together. There's a metal framework upon which the different glass components are mounted. Seeing these pieces unboxed from their carrying crates and then assembled onto the metal frameworks was another case of gritting one's teeth for fear that the beautiful pieces would be broken. Truly fascinating to see not only how the individual glass pieces are blown, but the subsequent construction to create the final glass masterpiece. It's totally a wow!
