Clowns in the woods

Would it be possible to have this on the table in the next session? It is very creepy and watching some the videos makes me feel bad for the people who encountered this.

I am thinking it could be an interdimensional phenomenon, but I won't rule out the possibility that something or someone is possessing certain men to dress up and do these things.

I don't think there's any need for interdimensional aspect here. Many people seem to be going crazy on this planet. For example, can you imagine what some of these people do in their spare time?

To add to what Joe wrote, in The Gift of Fear, de Becker tells how there are many people who feel that they need to be in the spotlight for thier 15 minutes of fame. When they see the attention that someone gets by the news media for doing something negative, like killing someone, they think that they could do that, too, and get their 15 minutes of fame, or see it as a fun thing to do, etc.

Lots of copycat people out there.

I would say just idiots with their brains ironed totally flat and smooth who wants to have "fun".

This just in from Coast to Coast Radio:

The creepy clown craze gripping America has begun to spread around the world as the haunting harlequins have now been reported in England, Canada, and even Australia!

Spawned by sightings at a small apartment complex in South Carolina back in late August, creepy clowns quickly turned viral, moving into nearby states and then exploding across the country.

Akin to an unsavory version of the Ice Bucket Challenge, it appears that more and more nefarious individuals are donning clown costumes in the hopes of getting a thrill by terrorizing innocent people.

Creepy clowns have been blamed for school closings in a myriad of municipalities, inciting a riot at Penn State, and generally being a nuisance online.

And, if the events of the last week are any indication, America may have stumbled into its next great export: creepy clowns.

Authorities in various Canadian cities, including Toronto and Edmonton, have reported having to handle clown-related incidents, including one ne'er-do-well who was arrested in Halifax.

The phenomenon has gotten so big in Canada that one costume shop owner said that he is getting daily requests for clown costumes from presumably mischievous customers.

Meanwhile, over in the United Kingdom, the meme appears to be getting a bit misunderstood, as sometimes happens when American culture gets adopted overseas.

Police in England and Scotland say that their clown sightings are rather extreme, with some perpetrators wielding knives and other chasing their victims.

Seemingly aware of what's happening around the world, Australia has been swift to respond to initial reports of clown sightings in their country.

In a quintessential Australian approach, numerous groups have formed on social media promising a "clown purge" should they become a menace to denizens of the land Down Under.

Here at home, the crisis has also reached a fever pitch for professional clowns, who are actually hoping that a 'Clown Lives Matter' rally in Tuscon will help assuage the public fears surrounding their profession.

With Halloween still a few weeks away, their efforts may be in vain as 'creepy clown' seems poised to join Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton as this year's most popular costumes.

Considering the extremely strange nature of 2016 so far, that's probably rather appropriate.

Kinda reminds me of the Pokemon game craze.

A section of sky news was dedicated to this very topic this morning in the U.K. There was a police superior advising anyone possessing dangerous weapons even if it is a joke will be arrested. Certainly is a major distraction if it's gaining national news coverage

The creepy clown madness has now reached the Netherlands. An 11 year old boy reported that he was chased by a clown with a small kitchen knife in his hand. The clown suddenly appeared from the bushes. It's not clear from the article that I read, but the boy probably managed to escape, as he's luckily not harmed. There have been more sightings of clowns with knives in the same Dutch city (Almere).

Ronald McDonald disappears from view in wake of “killer clown” sightings in Netherlands

Posted on Oct 12, 2016 by Janene Pieters

Dutch branches of fast food chain McDonald’s decided to remove clown mascot Ronald McDonald from public view for the time being now that the “killer clown” phenomena popped up in the Netherlands, ANP reports.

Following the example of the United States, the Netherlands’ McDonald’s believes it inappropriate to have the clown in stores at the moment. “We’re hanging his suit in the closet for the time being”, a spokesperson for the company said on Wednesday, according to the news wire.

The killer clown phenomena also came to the Netherlands from the United States. So-called killer clowns were spotted scaring passersby and children in both Almere and Oss over the past days. Both clowns were wearing frightening makeup and armed with a knife. The one in Oss also had a hammer.

The police departments in Almere and Oss are investigating.

Wow, that central lady with the rows of teeth attached to her face is amazing.

I read an article recently with interviews with professional clowns in the UK and this nonsense is having a very real and negative effect on their work. Those that work primarily with children are having shows cancelled by worried parents who don't want their little ones having nightmares about clowns. Also those who routinely stage street shows are being verbally harassed and sometimes attacked by the public. I suppose the craze is set to continue until Halloween.

Hi Tuulikki,

Your remark suddenly reminded me of a topic I once started -- Endangered species: clown ;)

I had a bit of a revelation last night when I was browsing film titles on Netflix and saw one of the many 'Purge' movies, depicting a dystopian society that allows lawlessness for a 24 hour period once a year.

This is the latest addition to the franchise: _http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4094724/

"The Purge: Election Year"

A common motif in the franchise are masks that participants wear as they enact vicious comeuppance against their foes on 'purge day'.

My revelation also includes another event earlier in the day when I was browsing game titles, another popular franchise series is 'Payday'.

This is the first game in the franchise: _https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Payday:_The_Heist

"In Payday: The Heist, players use a variety of firearms to complete objectives (usually centered around stealing a certain object, person, or a particular amount of money)."

Here is a promo photo from 'Payday' that I've grown tired of seeing over the years, containing a similar 'mask' motif:

https://i.ytimg.com/vi/nwbm_7W2VQw/maxresdefault.jpg

Something about this game harkens to a scene in the Christopher Nolan Batman film 'The Dark Knight', a film of which was a running theme for shooter James Holmes, who was arguably 'mind controlled' or used as a patsy for the Auora 2012 mass shooting at a theatre, showing the sequel 'The Dark Knight Rises'. (re: _https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_Aurora_shooting )

The scene at the beginning of the film depicts a 'heist' where a stooge gang of criminals rob a bank and slowly kill one another off before main villain The Joker, makes off with the loot after murdering the last remaining member of his heist gang.

It's become obvious that this evil clown mania is a result of persistent media presentation of masked villains enacting psychotic behavior. The amount of media presenting this imagery is increasing, and as such, it's now reflecting in the behavior of people in real life.

Lots of copycat people out there.

IMHO James Holmes, the alleged aurora shooter (I say that as I recall eye witness reports of multiple suspects at the scene, another running motif for recent shootings in the U.S.), If not a patsy or mind controlled stooge, could very well be a 'Joker' copy cat seeking his own 15 minutes.

After these thoughts I searched 'Clown Purge' in Google and the responses are disturbing, particularly in Australia, where the AUS media is using the exact term to describe the mania.

At any rate, coming to close to Halloween, I advise parents out there to use caution and select the safest neighborhoods for trick-or-treating, or early evening mall events (in doors and earlier in the evening when there is still light)...

I get a nasty feeling that with the amount of 'masked' people out there, that some strange and disturbing events are at risk for halloween. Something isn't right about the trend and build up and the day of all days for masks.

A similar discussion as Tuulikki signaled for the UK is slowly starting to flourish here as well (in Dutch only):
