Coronavirus: nicotine would have preventive properties, according to a study by a team from the Pitié Salpêtrière hospital

Jedi
I accidentally read interesting post in a local web site about "nicotine" possible protection from coronavirus, maybe the forum members of a French-speaking area could help with this and could give us more informations about this.

Thay mention Parisian hospital La Pitié-Salpêtrière and professor Jean-Pierre Changeux from Pasteur Institute and his research, I search and got this site

but it is on french language, anyway using the google translate:

"Coronavirus: nicotine would have preventive properties, according to a study by a team from the Pitié Salpêtrière hospital

A study carried out on 480 Covid-19 patients, revealed by France Inter this Wednesday, shows that smokers are less affected than the general population. This hypothesis should soon be the subject of a clinical study.

Nicotine is said to have preventive properties against Covid-19, according to a study by a team from the Pitié Salpêtrière hospital in Paris and neurobiologist Jean-Pierre Changeux, member of the Academy of Sciences, revealed by France Inter, this

Wednesday April 22. >> Coronavirus: follow the evolution of the pandemic in our live The hospital's study concludes that smokers are less likely than other people to be infected with the virus. This study, which has just been published by the French

Academy of Sciences, involved 350 hospitalized patients and 130 lighter patients admitted on an outpatient basis.
All tested positive for Covid-19. We looked at whether they smoked more or less than the general population of the same sex or same age.

Internal medicine professor Zahir Amoura, who conducted the study, found that there are very few smokers among these patients. "We had a rate of smokers which was around 5%, which is low," said Zahir Amoura to France Inter. "There are about 80% fewer smokers in the Covid populations than in the general population, of the same sex and the same age."

This thesis should soon be the subject of a clinical study. So there would be something in tobacco that protects against Covid-19, and why not nicotine. Through mutual acquaintance, Nobel Prize winner in physics Serge Haroche, Zahir Amoura meets world-renowned neurobiologist Jean-Pierre Changeux who suggests that nicotine may be preventing the virus from entering cells. "The idea was that nicotine would interfere with the attachment of the coronavirus to the nicotine receptor, and could therefore prevent the spread of the virus."

The hypothesis seems solid and will have to be verified soon by a clinical study.

Trials will therefore begin soon, especially as the health authorities seem interested. Nicotine patches will be administered to three different audiences: preventive caregivers, hospital patients and others in intensive care.

Nicotine could also dampen the excessive immune response that generates the most severe cases. But be careful not to rush for as long as cigarettes which remain harmful to health. "

Thanks for sharing, Dragon.

The effects of nicotine has interested me for some years now and especially after reading posts here at the forum and articles on SOTT.

I have also talked to one of the doctors I know about this, an older man, old-school/no BS type whom I greatly respect. He told me that nicotine is the only substance that has the effect of making you more alert/awaken and calm you down at the same time. If this is the case, I don't know, but I do know that I have been taking nicotine almost half of my life now and I'm 33.

I see that there is a great focus on smoking(organic) here and the benefits of it. Personally I have a problem with inhaling and don't like to smoke at all. I do however use a lot of snus. To those not familiar with snus, it's simply tobacco put under your upper lip to get the nicotine in through the bloodstream from there.

If I'm not mistaken the benefits from smoking exceed the purely physical ones, it also works as some sort of protection from 4D STS? Does anyone know if snus could have some of the same benefits even without the smoke?

Another reason I'm wondering of what the positive effects of snus might be is that almost every person I know under 40 is using snus. For Norway in general the number of users is massive. In Sweden I believe it's even greater. Very few young people are smoking, but many are using snus.

Thanks for sharing Dragon, Dr. Gaby recently wrote an article for SOTT on this topic: COVID-19, ACE2, Nicotinic Receptors And The Cholinergic Anti-Inflammatory And Cognitive-Improving Pathway, here are some quotes from the article:

A pre-print on smoking and hospitalization for COVID-19 brings up this same issue of whether the ACE2 molecule gateway is harmful or beneficial. We all know how smoking is terrible for people and is related to many illnesses, right? Well, the puzzling thing is that smokers and ex-smokers seem to fare better than non-smokers when it comes to COVID-19 complications. The following paper "raises the hypothesis that nicotine may have beneficial effects on COVID-19":

Abstract

The study purpose was to examine the prevalence of current e-cigarette use and current smoking among hospitalized patients with COVID-19 in China, considering the high population smoking prevalence in the country (26.6%, 50.5% in males and 2.1% in females). A systematic research of the literature (PubMed) was performed on April 1. Out of 432 studies, we identified 13 studies examining the clinical characteristics of a total of 5960 hospitalized COVID-19 patients that presented data on the smoking status. No study reported e-cigarette use among COVID-19 patients. The prevalence of current smoking ranged from 1.4% to 12.6%. The random effect pooled prevalence of current smoking was 6.5% (95%CI: 4.9-8.2%). This preliminary analysis does not support the argument that current smoking is a risk factor for hospitalization for COVID-19. Instead, these consistent observations, which are further emphasized by the low prevalence of current smoking among COVID-19 patients in the US (1.3%), raises the hypothesis that nicotine may have beneficial effects on COVID-19. This could be attributed to its immunomodulatory effects and its interaction with the renin-angiotensin system. However, other confounding factors need to be considered and the accuracy of the recorded smoking status needs to be determined. However, the results were remarkably consistent across all studies and were recently verified in the first case series of COVID-19 cases in the US. In conclusion, the generalized advice to quit smoking as a measure to improve health risk remains valid, but no recommendation can currently be made concerning the effects of smoking on the risk of hospitalization for COVID-19. No studies recording e-cigarette use status among hospitalized COVID-19 patients were identified. Thus, no recommendation can be made for e-cigarette users. The above-mentioned observations, together with the potential mechanisms through which nicotine interacts with the inflammatory process and the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone axis involved in the development of COVID-19, warrant an urgent investigation of the clinical effects of pharmaceutical nicotine on COVID-19 susceptibility, progression and severity.
To explain why smokers seemed to fare better, the authors speculate that nicotine might have beneficial immunomodulatory effects. However, they further state that interactions between nicotine and the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone axis remain unclear.

[...]

Note that, while the authors portray the renin-angiotensin system as one of the most important regulatory systems on autonomic, cardiovascular, and pulmonary functions in both health and disease, they overlook something fundamental. Arguably the most important regulatory system in the body is the parasympathetic branch of the autonomous nervous system, which serves as the body's master anti-inflammatory automated circuit.

The vagus nerve is the heart of the parasympathetic nervous system. It is the body's own 'anti-stress system'. The vagus nerve is your calming and relaxing nerve, which extends from your brain down to your abdomen, dividing into multiple branches that reach your throat, your heart, lungs, and all your viscera. It is also called 'the wanderer', as it wanders throughout your body. When you take deep breaths, this wandering nerve is activated and it releases acetylcholine, which reduces the production of inflammatory molecules like cytokines. Recall the 'cytokine storm' that occurs in severe COVID-19 cases.

Receptors for acetylcholine, also known as cholinergic receptors, fall into two categories based on chemicals that mimic or antagonize the action of acetylcholine on its target cells. In classic studies, nicotine, isolated from tobacco, was one of the chemicals used to distinguish acetylcholine receptors. This is because our bodies contain nicotinic receptors for acetylcholine. People who smoke often undergo slight temporary impairment of cognitive abilities when they quit smoking, until their bodies re-adjust to the cessation of the nicotine influx. This worsening is because nicotine acts as an agonist to mimic acetylcholine receptors, which is important for learning, memory, and cognitive functions.

The production of cytokines, as well as tumor necrosis factor (TNF) and interleukin-6 (IL-6), protect us against pathogens and promote tissue repair, but excessive release of cytokines can result in systemic inflammation, organ failure, and ultimately death, as is happening in some patients with COVID-19.

Autonomous regulation of local and systemic inflammation - that is, the molecular link between the brain and the immune system - is done through the anti-inflammatory cholinergic pathway. This is the mechanism comprising the vagus nerve and its neurotransmitter acetylcholine, a process that depends on the alpha-7 sub-unit of the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (α7 nAChR).

Acetylcholine has a direct inhibitory effect on the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, thus avoiding the damaging effects from excess production of cytokines. Nicotine, the prototypical acetylcholine nicotinic receptor agonist, attenuates the release of cytokines such as TNF. Vagus nerve stimulation decreases inflammation without unwanted side effects on organ functions such as respiration, heart-rate, and intestinal motility.

The lies of the elites have become so numerous and so big that in the very same article you can find a statement and its opposite. It seems that they don't care any more for a semblance of internal consistency anymore. The above quoted article is a case in point. We read:

The hospital's study concludes that smokers are less likely than other people to be infected with the virus.

and a few sentences later:

cigarettes which remain harmful to health

How are we to reconcile those two mutually exclusive statements?

One more article about this at zerohedge.com:

"Is The World About To Panic Hoard Nicotine Products After France's Promising Coronavirus Study?

Slowly but surely the information is finding a way to get out into the light of day

In the previous post I mistakenly put the wrong address this is the correct one:

"Is The World About To Panic Hoard Nicotine Products After France's Promising Coronavirus Study?

below a reference to possible benefits of nicotine. as it appears to be of value as i read above, france would ban it. this is a confirmation.

an aside: what has become of my initially so belowed france, and to which the cass also expatriated laura? when i was young, one first studied, then worked, then improved to be awarded higher responsabilities only in due time. now you study, then are directly awarded highest responsability on the way to your final decay...since people with minimal experience are presently entrusted important jobs, this demonstrates that their experience is NOT required. therefore they must be fidele executants of orders given from the real but hidden authorities: the consortium of the cass?
