EU "banned" raw tobacco

I used to buy raw tobacco cakes from tobacco web shops that sold them. You prepare them with flavor, base and water and let them soak in a bag for one or two days, then you grind it and let them dry, but don't dry them out.

But because of EU no one sells it anymore, at least there are no shops here in Sweden that do. It simply isn't worth business as the introduced tax on it is so high. Searching Google for some good article regarding this tax it came up with nothing. So I don't know what to link to.

I rather smoke raw tobacco than commercial cigarettes. The taste and texture was so different. I used Honey flavor. The smell in the bags were so darn good.

In the last month I just rolled pipe tobacco in cigarette tubes, not that the tax were that recent, that was earlier in the year. Pipe tobacco isn't that good either but they aren't like a pack of cigarettes, of course.

I used to enjoy commercial cigarettes but later in life they became less good. But I will always be a smoker regardless. It's just a matter of finding good "leaves". If I were rich I would just order my "servants" to grow them but that isn't the case now.

Is EU making things hard or impossible for other businesses of various kind I wonder?

Have you tried to search for 'Additive free rolling tobacco'? Lots of people here use that. There are many different brands. Not so sure about the situation in Sweden but in the UK we can order bulk amounts of additive free tobacco from Germany.

I just looked through the biggest tobacco web-shops in Sweden, and none of them have any additive free rolling tobacco, just normal commercial rolling tobacco. These shops have all and much more products than the average tobacco shop have, at least in my town. So I don't think those can be found in Sweden.

Is Additive free rolling tobacco cheap? If so it could just be people selling raw tobacco in a new form. If I then ordered this I could have to pay tax. I read on a Swedish forum that if you order raw tobacco from outside the country, you will will have to pay tax if caught by customs. And that tax is probably much more than what the product cost, but I am not sure about that.

That's the case at least in Germany that sellers don't ship tobacco out of the country to private persons anymore because every other country has a different taxation system. Could you order tobacco legally from the US or any other country?

I went to Sweden's customs website and yes, I'll still would have to pay up. I would order from another country and US if I found any good tobacco and source, sure, but I never have. One time tried to order Pipe tobacco from a US website, but they didn't ship outside the US.
From a country outside the EU
Pay customs, VAT and tobacco tax
For all tobacco you order from a country outside the EU, you have to pay customs, VAT and Swedish tobacco tax.

*Cigarettes - duty 57.6% and tax 154 öre / piece
*Cigars - customs duty 26% and tax SEK 136 / piece
*Smoke tobacco - duty 74.9% and tax SEK 1,884 / kg
*Snuff - duty 41.6% and tax SEK 442 / kg

VAT is 25%

It is the company that transports the tobacco that calculates the fees and sends an invoice to you."

Tobak på nätet - Tullverket

I quote this from the tobacco web-shop I used to order from:
With reference to an EU judgment of April 6, 2017, (EUD C638 / 15), the Tax Agency has decided that the type of raw tobacco that Cuthof imported and offered on the market since 1994 is taxable as smoking tobacco according to the law. (1994: 1536) tobacco tax LTS, with SEK 1884: 00 / kg excluding VAT."

So this is unique to Sweden and other countries that have followed EU when they had no tax on these products before in their countries?

Well, haven't ordered any tobacco yet, but it is the plan. Am saving money on things I need, so to pay these ridiculous amounts on tax for the tobacco isn't appeasing me.

Right now 'snusar jag' (use snus), everyday, all day. It isn't that expensive for me. I wonder if "snus-ing" is as beneficial as smoking?

I smoked since I became a teen, but I haven't smoked now since some time after the last post I made in this thread.

I wonder why I changed from craving commercial cigarettes, to only liking smoking prepared/ flavored raw tobacco?

Like I said, it is all about finding the right leaf.

I also wonder why I never get any nicotine kicks, which stopped in my late teens. Even at times when I hadn't smoked for a while and then smoked, I still didn't get nicotine kicks.

Is it normal for it to stop?

Hello R-ME a have a kind of off-topic question for since you are from Sweden - the only European nation has its way of dealing with corona plandemic. Maybe you could give us some descriptions in corona thread how is life continuing in a country without curfews et al?

@Yozilla

Well. For me, life goes on the same as before. Don't really feel like posting in the corona thread right now. But for what its worth:

Since this outbreak started I have only seen one person with a face mask.

At the sportcentre where I work, activities continue, but to a smaller extent. The daily activities/work for a group with Autism/Asperger's and other disabilities have been canceled at work which I used to belong. But I got hired some weeks before - so, still not affected.

At two places I've been recently, a shop, they had marks for distance between line-ups. And at McDonald's every other table is marked cancelled. The malls seems normal, though I vaguely remember they had glass protection with the cashier at the checkouts.

I heard through people and family of people who have caught the virus, but no one of them has died, as far as I know.

That's about it.

I don't know how things look around the country, I only know the little I do, and I don't watch TV or read the local newspapers.

Well, of course it's up to you, R-ME, but I am sure many people would love to hear from a Swede. :-) :cool2:
It's the gathering of information from all corners of the globe which makes the thread so interesting (and more) and Sweden is a special case after all.

Let me know if you ever find good tobacco here. I take snus as well but I doubt it is as beneficial as smoking:cool2:

I have been trying to find tobacco leafs whithin France over the years.
I just found out that there is actualy plenty of online sellers. The trick is that to find them you have to search for "Feuilles de tabac pour la décoration." (EN: tobacco leafs for decorative purpose)...
