Exploding Bolides in your neighborhood

Correct me if this is in the wrong part of the forum. I m a sky watcher, especially at night. But Tonight I saw 2 bright flashes in the sky over the San Francisco Bay Area two minutes apart. One at 1:06 am and the other at 1:08 am, both accompanied without sound and in two different hemispheres, north and south. I can see the whole bay, and usually if it is lightning, there is sound to follow, but tonight is quiet and not too foggy. My guess is that they were comet fragments exploding high in the atmosphere to produce light, but too far to have sound traveled thus far. (of course it could be anything else, but the "swarm" is in our midst?)

I was mainly wondering if anyone else has reported seeing bright flashes when this sort of thing wouldn't happen in such dense populated areas.
