Anybody else notice the frontpage of Google today - http://www.google.ca/ ?

googlllll-1.jpg

If you click the image at the link it takes you to search results of "unexplained phenomenon"

Yup. Saw it today...sorta weirded me out. Don't know why...just did.

Is it the anniversary of some big UFO flap?

funny ,huh?

if you click on the second link
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/google/6142629/Mystery-of-Googles-unexplained-phenomenon-doodle.html
on the link you have give , this is what it is written:

"The new doodle has flummoxed web users because it does not appear to represent a specific event or launch, both of which are the usual reasons behind special Google doodle. Instead, clicking on the image of the UFO takes the user to a search for the term "unexplained phenomenon" which just happens to be one of the top trending search terms on Google today. Also in the top 10 search terms is the phrase "top 10 unexplained phenomena".
But is this chicken or is this egg? Did Google change the logo in response to the growing number of searches for "unexplained phenomenon" or is it specifically seeking to drive traffic to that term. Web users are asking if this is a precursor to some viral event or if is tied to yesterday's release of District 9. "

From my limited experience, look into the skies and you can perceive what you can. The hype from the PTB is what I think "they"
want you to perceive.

Well strangely enough NZ Google doesn't show that image. I check out a few other countries Google and those that I've looked so far do not have that image. Strange indeed!!

Could be several reasons why Google is doing this. These 2 different stories appear under the wiki explanation:

http://www.livescience.com/strangenews/top10_unexplained_phenomena-1.html

both reputable and wide audience range websites...

Same here in USA Vulcan! It now links you to a search for "crop circle".

same as canada... hmmm at first I didn't think there was much to it, but first ufo and now crop circles? What's going on at google headquarters i wonder... :umm:

Looks like more and more little things like this are beginning to CROP up ( pun intended), Almost seems to me like they are gearing up for something, some sort of preparedness class.
I was scrolling through the guide on the cable system too and noticed more and more shows geared towards UFO's, Nostrodamus, Religion, Mayan's, life after humans and Doomsday stuff all over the TV, looks like some sort of campaign.

Same here for German speaking folks, also the last -picture- I could see.
I don't know for what they are up to, but considering google maybe not for an so good outcome, or as already said an campaign maybe for an movie.

First question that pops into mind, "Who creates these logos?"
That person is Dennis Hwang

Here you can see a compilation of Google Doodles from the past years, though unsure if it's a complete list.

I find it curious that "Unexplained Phenomena" (found at the bottom of the page) is the only one that isn't an anniversary of sorts, or a holiday ( that I know of ). Although there seems to be many possibilities that may point to otherwise.

So, "How does he come up with these logos?" Who's ideas are they?"
Hwang said users e-mail from all over the world to praise the designs or petition for new ones.

Hwang said they did a logo for the Persian New Year after a huge online campaign and that the National Library Day design was very popular.

"That one was a huge hit among librarians across the whole country," he said. They even sent me library-related cool toys and hats things like that. One was even a librarian action figure with 'shushing action' so that was really funny."

He said he meets a few times a year with a small group of Google staffers to decide which events to cover.

"We talk about interesting holidays that are coming up, or various international holidays or any current events or news events that we think are cool and geeky or 'Google-y' in some sense and then we just sort of give it a go," he said.
It's definitely caused quite a stir, typing in "Google Doodles" into Google search box pulled up a few sites and their speculations on the logos. One of which says,
The Twitter message simply reads: "51.327629, -0.5616088", and links to an image of the crop circle logo on the Google homepage, showing the letter "L" being abducted by a flying saucer.
The corrdinates pointing to 1-7 Woodham Rd, Woking, Surrey GU21 4, UK.

And nine days earlier, on twitter this post:
1.12.12 25.15.21.18 15 1.18.5 2.5.12.15.14.7 20.15 21.19 http://twitpic.com/giyxf 9:02 PM Sep 4th from web
Apparently, decrypted as "All your O are belong to us", a reference to the popular Internet meme "All your base are belong to us".

Some folks commenting on the subject have speculated a connection between the logos and H.G. Wells, his birthday being this month, as well as his writing of the novel War of the Worlds while living in Woking.

Hmm... curious to see this one play out.
