It sounds like a beautiful place from the link description. What a refreshing and wonderful concept to be able to live by an honor system instead of the authoritarian nightmare. It must be heartbreaking for the residents to find their good will and fealty taken advantage of in such a manner.

According to Wikipedia the human population of Canna is only 11, so the thief/thieves were probably not from these 11 local residents but a visitor to the island. (And probably not a visitor from the neighbouring island of Sanday, population 7.) :)
