"...the film reaffirms the opinion of John Mark, one of the guards, who, looking back, has said that Zimbardo’s interpretation of events was too shaped by his expectations to be meaningful: “He wanted to be able to say that college students, people from middle-class backgrounds … will turn on each other just because they’re given a role and given power. Based on my experience, and what I saw and what I felt, I think that was a real stretch.”

Interesting experiment. When i studied this one in psychology class my initial impression was that the main perpetrating guard was a psychopath. From watching a post-experimental interview I still think that this particular guard was psychopathic and hold the view that the application of the science of ponerology would much better explain the results of the experiment.

Recently new information was revealed regarding the famous Stanford Prison Experiment.

Apparently this new data points toward the experiment being staged. The prison guards, for example, were being told to be cruel on purpose, or prisoners intensified their reactions also on purpose, as if playing a role.

Here's an article with their memories:
The Lifespan of a Lie – Trust Issues – Medium

And here are notes made by Zimbardo:

Yep - one more thing we've been lied to about! It was a pretty well-known experiment and why would we doubt what we were told about it. Unbelievable - and yet not now that we know our STS reality!
