The pic of the day in the old format served a useful purpose (besides the beauty of nature and Peirre-Paul's ability to capture it) in helping to quickly identify the news of that day when searching through the archives. I think it could be useful for some to either have some pic of the day or some unique identifying feature at the top of the page each day in the new format - perhaps Ark's Quantum Quirks or some art?
