Pink Floyd - High hopes

Since Pink Floyd came up in the last sessions, I just listened to their song "High hopes", which I listened to at the age 13/14 a lot, smoking my first cigarettes... This was a very important and difficult time for me, and it was very touching to listen to that song again after such a long time. Really great lyrics too, I didn't fully appreciate them back then... It's funny, I never really liked Pink Floyd, but loved this one song.

You'll find the song on youtube here:

Lyrics:
Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young
In a world of magnets and miracles
Our thoughts strayed constantly and without boundary
The ringing of the division bell had begun

Along the Long Road and on down the Causeway
Do they still meet there by the Cut

There was a ragged band that followed in our footsteps
Running before time took our dreams away
Leaving the myriad small creatures trying to tie us to the ground
To a life consumed by slow decay

The grass was greener
The light was brighter
With friends surrounded
The nights of wonder

Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us
To a glimpse of how green it was on the other side
Steps taken forwards but sleepwalking back again
Dragged by the force of some inner tide

At a higher altitude with flag unfurled
We reached the dizzy heights of that dreamed of world

Encumbered forever by desire and ambition
There's a hunger still unsatisfied
Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon
Though down this road we've been so many times

The grass was greener
The light was brighter
The taste was sweeter
The nights of wonder
With friends surrounded
The dawn mist glowing
The water flowing
The endless river

Forever and ever

Since the last year, I've discovered more Pink Floyd and I've been very touch with the song Wish You Were Here and would absolutely play it on my guitar (I don't play very well but I feel so good when I'm playing and the plus with this song is that I can sing in the same time ( I can't sing very high or low so it's just in my tune).

I recently discovered Pink Floyd myself just a couple of years ago, besides the standards that are available on radio. Their albums are so dynamic and nuanced.

IMO...much more creative and influential than the The Beatles. Syd Barrett and Roger Waters were very experimental and daring. "Meddle" might be my favorite album of all time.

Thanks for sharing.Pink Floyd got my attention since a read Laura`s books.I work in a stressful place where there is background music and definitely when I listen to them it helps a lot to calm down the environment. ;)
