Thanks to the SOTT team for introducing me to this author.
Below are a few notes I've kept while reading the book. Overall
it's great book if you want to understand the mess we are in today,
and it's written in an easy to understand way.

GG1 - Great Game I was the classical imperialism as described by Marx and
Lenin, with competing empires vying for territory and resources, the
professed goal being to bring the benefits of western civilization—
especially Christianity—to the ‘backward’ peoples. The real goal was:
“Which side can capture the most land/ colonies?”

As the main victor of GGI, Britain
pursued a divide-and-rule strategy in the Middle East aimed at creating
a string of weak, subservient Arab states and a European imperial
outpost in a region now vital to the Anglo-American empire.

GG2 - the
Cold War between imperialism and communism, where the US united
its former imperial rivals, Britain, Germany, France, et al to fight the
anti-empire forces, though this game did not take center stage till the
end of WWII.

The imperial strategy in GGII was to cover up the real age-old imperial
objectives with both liberal and anticommunist cant, and, taking this
logic a step further, to ‘create the problem, provide the solution’.

GGII was really two games: one directed against the Soviet
Union and its European socialist allies, and the other against the nations
struggling for independence from imperial control.

GG3 - The playing field, the geopolitical context, as in GGI, once again
includes both the Middle East and Central Asia, with the fiercest
battle once again in Afghanistan.

As in GGI, there is geopolitical rivalry, but now the rivalry is not
only between major powers, but within the imperial team itself,
between the US and Israel.

The US has been the main protagonist in GGIII, its main objective to
unite under its hegemony the Middle East and Central Asia—the
strategic Eurasian heartland, the fabled Silk Road, with its trade routes
and energy resources. To ensure this, it has carried out unprecedented
invasions, transformed NATO into its world military extension, and
moved to surround Russia, China and Iran to prevent them from
challenging US power there. This has been justified with an ideology
of terror-as-the-enemy, leading to the endgame of permanent war, a
strategy crafted over the past two decades by it and Israel, its other
‘half’, sometimes in tandem, sometimes in conflict.

At present, the enemy so necessary to justify the empire is
defined as Islamic terrorism.
Leaving aside the fact that the US itself
fostered this problem, its response—a war on terror—is not intended to
end terror (an impossibility) but to use it as justification for ‘reforming’
Islam in the process, occupying strategic areas of the Eurasian heartland,
both to ensure access to its resources, but also to pursue containment
of the real rivals for US world hegemony—China and Russia.

After the battle with Islam, the battle to cow Russia and China would be
the main task of the US in GGIII.
The prototype now is to provoke a civil
war, as in the case of Yugoslavia, which was dismembered and
incorporated into the new world order, or in the case of Serbia,
Afghanistan and Iraq to use fabricated charges to justify invasion, with
dismemberment, a long term goal in each case.

The 2008 financial crisis precipitated by the US which devastated
Europe, and the weakening of the euro were also orchestrated to keep
Europe in line. Euro-dominoes are still falling as governments meekly
cave in to banker demands.

Israel -
Every time we do something, you tell me Americans will do this and
will do that. I want to tell you something very clear, don’t worry about
American pressure on Israel; we, the Jewish people control America,
and the Americans know it.
Prime Minister Ariel Sharon(2001)

Despite the continuation of its special relationship with the US,
Israelis playing an increasingly independent role in GGIII around the
world, with its government, corporations and Kosher Nostra working
with whatever states and non-state actors are willing to condone its
deadly games, selling arms (for example, to China, Russia, India, Sri
Lanka), smuggling drugs (to Europe and the US), buying blood diamonds
(from Africa), conducting covert operations to subvert governments (for
example, in Syria, Iraq, Iran), assassinating opponents, forging passports,
spying and eavesdropping, harboring ‘Jewish’ fugitives, sometimes in
support of the US in its game strategies and objectives, sometimes not,
depending on its own interests. Its diaspora community and Chabad
network, found in virtually every corner of the globe, facilitate its game
plan, keeping ahead of US plans and technology through its American
sayanim, operatives, spies and powerful lobby.

Hostility and war are more than just a strategy for Israel, but
its raison d’etre, along with Lebensraum, the underlying goal of the
Zionists in GGII&III.

Thus Israel incites, abets and possibly even perpetrates terrorism
attributed to Muslim fanatics, and then sells the world drones, full-body scanners and operates security at dozens of world airports, both
protecting against and at the same time facilitating terrorism and
collective punishment, encouraging the use of ever more sophisticated
security technology, in a vicious circle.

Remarkably, Israel has achieved so far something Nazi Germany
tried and failed to achieve: to occupy other people’s lands on dubious
historical grounds, and as a heartland, to enforce itself as a regional
hegemon through military superiority.

The GGIII wars cost Israel nothing; on the contrary, its sales of
weapons have increased dramatically. But they have burdened
the US with huge expenditures and troop commitments while
putting the US at the center of the fighting. As the US destroys
itself through overreach, fighting Israel’s wars (in the case of
Afghanistan, a neocon war inspired by Israeli strategy), Israel,
like the US in GGI&II, is free to expand its relations around the
world.

The ability to mobilize world Jewry and use both the Israel
lobby and the suffering of Jews in WWII to extract surplus from the
center is just as remarkable as the ability of Israel to carry out a Middle
Eastern version of the Nazi agenda of Lebensraum while securing itself
a prominent place among the world’s nations.

...it cannot hope to subdue the world directly, but rather
primarily by shaping or subverting its host empire’s aims and strategies,
to achieve its geopolitical “place in the sun” both through its diaspora
and through its own use of statecraft and subversion, untroubled by
world reaction.

Very simply, Israel cannot develop itself as
regional economic hegemon until it negotiates a meaningful peace
with its neighbors. As this runs counter to the entire strategic planning
of Zionists from even before the creation of Israel, Israel is effectively
besieged and will remain so in the foreseeable future.

Below are a few notes I've kept while reading the book. Overall
it's great book if you want to understand the mess we are in today,
and it's written in an easy to understand way.

Have to admit the book was very interesting, and it was also written before Libya completely imploded or Kiev and Syria developed as they did by fascists and proxies. It's all so upside down. Also, listened again to the SoTT interview with Eric and how he puts things makes for some important back-grounding information adding from post 2011 to 2014 when the book and later the interview took place.

There are some things I don't completely understand where Eric was coming from, such as the Brotherhood, and at the time he had hoped for its supremacy. It's understood he lived in Egypt and elsewhere and could see more than the average person. Whatever the case, though, the Brotherhood devolved - was absorbed, and seems to have become attached at the hip of the liberal left, morphing into a bitter foe used against others, and it is hard to keep track of the shifting sands under all these forces and attempt to get it right. It would be interested in hearing what Eric has to say now as things have become even more complex within Islamic circles and those crimping the igniting wires within their circles. It seems an endgame that sees only chaos.

One thing in the book that caught my attention was the whole take-down of Russia in the 80's/90's by the US, NGO's and Oligarchs - the who, where and how of it; the basic looting of the whole country by external forces - so talk about the crime of the century. Considering this, it's amazing that Putin accomplished in such a short time a recovery for Russia and how the people have rallied.

Anyway, it is no wonder today how the West has picked back up their imperial hard sword, re-positioning and reinventing NATO, railing the other western vessels to find another way in to break Russia apart - to prune it away it's satellites and from China et al. The use of Islamic proxy terrorist false flags have morph to Russian did it false flags, while the legions of humanitarian NGO's and identity politics adds to the pollution. It's almost completely mind boggling and it is part and parcel of why people in the west in the main can't even fathom the games being played to maintain hegemony; it is truly just too painful to consider for many and they have the press to keep them on track with their asymmetrical western narratives played out at every level. Western people may stumble and ask questions of the big picture, they try, yet divided they can't even figure out their own domestic political house.

Walberg wrote a second book in 2017 that I finished a little while ago. The book was published by Clarity Press, and is titled 'The Canadian-Israel Nexus'.

This was a close to home book, being home, and having both Native friends and Jewish friends. I was opened eyed by what I did not know and some things known provided added context.

The book was weaved throughout with his 'Postmodern Imperialism' book, with a focus on the history of Canada, the Natives, Jewish immigration and the different groups; those Jewish people that assimilated and have had nothing to do with Zionism and those who cemented themselves at the highest levels, setting up radical Zionist groups - lobbies, who have also attacked Jewish groups who stood in their way, or individuals like Norman Finkelstein, Atzmon and many more; some who were treated very badly.

There is a great deal of focus on the different prime ministers throughout and their ministers, religions leaders, those persecuted for so called anti-Semite speech - and the court challenges that resulted. There were challenges against Native leaders who have called out the Palestinian situation for what it is (similar to their Native situation which Walberg cross references - although with differences too). And there are Natives who have fallen under the spell of believing that the Zionist situation is the same as theirs (people who are just reclaiming their Jewish lands). Methods employed to do this include taking Native Chief's to Israel and Native students (similar to Christian groups in the US). Many of these Chiefs are on the wrong side of their people and are chastised by many tribes; yet it is also incremental.

There is discussion of the rights to duel-passports holders for those that suddenly up and leave Canada and take Aliyah, and reunite, to discussion on the Dead Sea Scolls - many A to Z topics.

With Walberg, I'm not sold on exactly everything he says (this or the one above), and yet he is well researched and provides an interesting take on the global and domestic current/historical situation.

There is a lot that I could add, yet would recommend this book, particularly if Native/Jewish or Canadian. The book offers some sticky situations at present and yet there is also divisions between the Diaspora Jews and and Jewish Canadians; this is a problem for the Zionist factions, they work double time against it, yet it offers a road ahead if people decide to speak and change. However, like AIPAC, Canada has a Jewish lobby that is exceedingly entrenched as we have seen with the Harperites etc.

Just to add, one thing Walberg reminds people of is the 'signifier' term in citizenship and their country. This is represented by saying that the last name is the 'signifier' e.g. it is not Native Canadian, it is Canadian Native, and it is Jewish Canadian, Spanish Canadian etc.

Here are a few reviews, a synopsis, the table of contents and an extract on Clarity Press: The Canada-Israel Nexus

  • “Eric Walberg is the perfect blend of a historian with a firsthand
journalistic experience in the Middle East and Canada. He spent years
perfecting his craft, as an astute researcher and a journalist. His books
don’t merely recount history, but deconstruct it so capably to help the
reader fathom the resultant complex reality. The Canada Israel Nexus’ is
the outcome of many years of research and writing based on decade-
long experiences writing for Al-Ahram Weekly, Press TV and many other
media platforms. Walberg is an unapologetic advocate of Palestinian
rights and this book represents both deep understanding of history and
    his unbending moral conviction.”

  • “Eric Walberg stood up for indigenous people when it was not popular to
do so, as well as having the courage to question and to present the
Palestinian side of the story. He offers humanization of the issues when
the main stream media will not.”

  • SYNOPSIS

How and why was Canada instrumental in Israel’s history? Has that
distorted Canada’s own development as an independent nation?
Excused Israel’s? The Canada Israel Nexus is a comparative political history of these two settler nations, their colonial past, their relations with the indigenous peoples on whose territories they imposed their rule, and what that tells us about where both are headed.

The Zionist project dominates the news with good reason. Jews are the most energetic force in western society despite their small numbers, and Jewish influence is now embodied in a Jewish-dominated state, which is both feared and respected, while headed toward being an international pariah. Its ‘best friend’ is Canada, not just in former Conservative prime minister Harper’s words, but from 1948 on, when a youthful Liberal, then UN ambassador and future prime minister, Lester Pearson, pushed through the plan for a separate Jewish state, leading to Israel’s creation—and a Nobel Peace Prize for Pearson, for his efforts related to the Suez crisis that followed.

The battle for justice in the Middle East involves treachery, terrorism, exile, apostasy, and, yes, conspiracy. It is the stuff of legend, of which Canada, Israel, and their relationship is a crucial part. The conflict of interests and rights between the colonizer and the colonized is central to this narrative, as is the relationship between Jews and the state in history, and how that relationship was transformed by the creation of a Jewish state.

The history of Israel-Palestine is like an accelerated version of Canadian-US history: the intifadas of the settler-dominated indigenous peoples, the duplicity of the British, the development of the same colonial perfidy by the states it spawned, the parallel techniques of dispossession, and how they became the supporters of terrorism, both state and non-state, in the 21st century.

Comparatively, the fate of the Palestinians looks both bleaker yet more hopeful than that of natives in Canada. Palestinians learn from Canadians (native and colonial) and seek support there, just as native peoples in Canada find inspiration in the struggle of Palestinians, and how to deal with the colonial master. There are vilified heroes in this story, both Jewish and non-Jewish.

As the anti-semitism mantra has put any honest discussion of the good and bad of Jewishness off-bounds, there is little acknowledgment of the great extent to which western popular culture is a product of east European Jewish culture—a subtle but powerful factor in the success of the Zionist agenda, though Yiddishkeit itself is the antithesis of Zionism.

  • EXCERPT from the Preface:

  • Canada and Israel were cut from the same cloth: settler colonies that dispossessed and killed natives to steal their lands. While there were stark differences— in the size of the colonies, their geopolitics, their historical period, and in the degree of
ruthlessness exercised by the mother country and its settlers— they both are offspring of British imperialism.

Canada and Israel have many historical similarities, and Jews have come to Canada in the hundreds of thousands and prospered. The Canadian government under Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper (2006-2016) reached a level of worship of things Israeli and Jewish unprecedented in Israel’s short history, officially referring to
itself as “Israel’s best friend”. More than any country except the US and Palau,
Canada supports Israeli violations of international law at the UN. Canadian Jews support the obliteration of Palestinian villages famously in Canada Park, a (surprisingly) Israeli national park stretching over 700 acres, extending into the West Bank, and with donations amounting to hundreds of millions of dollars to the
‘charity,’ the Jewish National Fund. Harper’s swan song was the creation (and funding while in office) of a bird sanctuary in Israel, which the Israelis were thoughtful enough to call the Stephen Harper Bird Sanctuary.

In The End of the Peace Process: Oslo and After, Edward Said worried that there is “the strong possibility that Palestinians will be Red Indianized forever, that Israel’s Jews cannot tolerate our present status either as angry religious terrorists or as compliant
    Red Indians.

As a weak postmodern nation (i.e., with no independent foreign policy), famous as a peace-keeper, Canada offered a perfect foil as Israel carried out some of its worst atrocities in Gaza. While the shameful Harper period seems to be at an end, the
inhuman siege of Gaza continues, and Canada applauds, as if it were virtually an outpost of Israel. At the same time, Canada has become a haven for disaffected Israelis, looking for a more promising land than Eretz Israel. So this work is a case study in the way Zionism, Jews and Israel impinge on an otherwise law-abiding
nation. It is also a study in contrasting relations with colonial natives.

The problem that a state of Israel might create was foreseen from the start, and addressed publicly by statesmen after WWII, when the form in which a homeland/refuge for Jews was being debated. In Canada, only the United Church spoke out to protest the creation of a Jewish state. Prime Minister Mackenzie King was as usual a fence-sitter, glad to be freed of too many Jewish refugees. But he was shocked by the brutality of the ‘war of liberation’ of the Jews in 1948, and put off official recognition of the new state. As a seasoned politician with no particular interest in Jewish affairs,
he saw trouble coming. When he retired, however, his heirs turned out to be enthusiastic Zionists. There was no public Jewish Canadian voice that was opposed to Israel, outside of the Communist Party, which was barely legal at that point, without
much influence, and crippled by Cold War hysteria. The writing was on the wall.

In the US, Einstein represented the most famous Jewish voice rejecting a racially based state, but he and a few others who spoke out were drowned in the euphoria of the novel idea embraced by the more than 2 million American Jews, who were already
an important factor in American life. No strong voice was willing to articulate and work to prevent the obvious: a racial state means a racist state, which was the cause of WWII, launched by the ‘Aryan’ racial state, Germany. To found a Jewish state on the same principle was surely a recipe for disaster. In the dozens of books written about Canada and Israel—virtually all by Zionists, whether Jewish or Gentile—this issue is never addressed.

‘The Zionists won.’ There has been no public debate about the legitimacy of Israel as a racially-based state, despite the fact that international law rejects this. That is why it is so important for the Zionists to force Palestinians to recognize not just the state of
Israel (which they did at Oslo in 1993), but Israel as a Jewish state. It seems that in this instance, only the Arabs understand international law.

The history of Jews in Canada, and Canada in Israel, is fascinating in itself. We in Canada watch with horror the daily news, as if it were the war in Vietnam continuing, as Israel ruthlessly persecutes a people who have no effective means of self-defense.
It is instructive to watch a speeded up version of what our forefathers did to Canadian natives over the past 4 centuries, though Israel has no time or interest in the niceties of British-style colonialism, so we get the uncensored, much more brutal
    version.
