Hey, I just wanted to know the mystery behind why women crave certain food during a pregnancy. I think it might have something to do with, you know, the mission in some cases, or maybe it's the baby being picky.

Well, on a physiological level, pregnancy cravings usually have to do with imbalance of either minerals or vitamins. There is something the body needs and it isn't present in an appropriate amount. That's when you can get craving for something weird, like chalk. This phenomenon is called pica. But sometimes it has nothing to do with deficiencies, but with hormonal fluctuations, changes in brain chemistry, etc. that leads to all kind of peculiar behavior and cravings.
Who knows, maybe baby's past life preferences somehow influence the mother, but it's usually the other way around, that child's DNA can have epigenetic marks from his mother, including what kind of diet the mother had, and how it influenced her health.
