Fwiw,
I can't speak about the NYC area, but I do not think that you will find a True Fourth Way school that way imho, you might want to look at ISOTM and the Wave for the necessary conditions. I don't think that if G. was alive he would be pleased at what he sees (I mean seeing the groups nowadays).
I have a small experience I can share, I went to dances classes for a few weeks, there were groups for Work too organized by the same people that did the dances (some of the people in the work groups had gotten to the point of supper effort, as the women told me). The organizers were nice and intelligent people (husband and wife), they weren't the Osho/G. variation, but the woman told me once that Gurdjieff had already provided enough material for them to explore till the end of their lives. I can't say that I am 100% sure whether she only meant that his Work is enormous so I hope I am not twisting their words in a subjective way, but she and her husband kind of seemed to be making the mistake of overconcentrating on G. a bit imho, forgetting that he didn't departure as a fully accomplished Hero would, that he could have made mistakes somewhere in the calculations of all his movements/music. In fact somewhere it was mentioned that some of his movements didn't produce the expected results at first and he told his students never to try those again.
So back to the main theme, I also would recommend sott/qfg's essay on the fourth way and there was also another piece about other qfg readers having visited such groups(which I cannot find right now).
