Seeing cars on the road flying a different flag today - Australia

The flag that I've seen is plain red background with a blue square in the upper left corner that has the southern cross on it. There is no union jack. I know that there are some groups that favour the red ensign - the ordinary Aus. flag on a red background, but haven't seen this one before and can't find it in a search. So not sure what group is using it or what they represent. The flags on these cars are quite large - at least 4 or 5 times the size flag that is usually used for cars.

My first thought is that maybe it's a group that favours a republic since the union jack is absent, but really don't know.

Any other Aussies notice them or know what they represent?

Hey Jones,

I think you are talking about the flag of Samoa...

There is a huge rugby league match coming up on Monday between Tonga and Samoa.
It is a big deal to them, so I am sure you will see a lot of flags as they show their support, they are very community minded and celebrate their 'warriors' big time!

I don't watch sport... but I did hear about it on the news and thought wow! that will be a big bone crunching clash.

Tonga and Samoa prepare for a call to war...

Did the flag look like this?
