Some Origins of Pacific Peoples

Kia Ora Everyone,

For those of you who don't know, kia ora is a phrase the Maoris use to greet each other. Maoris live in New Zealand, which is undergoing the same deliberate fomenting of racial tensions that is happening everywhere else. The current party line is that New Zealand belonged to the Maoris until the British took it away from them and therefore all non-Maoris must now pay. They are asserting their rights vigorously, even though they only arrived 800 years before the British and have many well-known legends concerning people who were living in New Zealand before they arrived...and whom they largely killed off. This is far worse than what the British did to them, which was get them to sign a treaty and put a stop to the ongoing wars among the Maori tribes.

The video at the following link gives a piece of the puzzle of human migration patterns and shows how populations moved around the Pacific from many different parts of the world. I hope you also enjoy the scenery and glimpses of Maori culture.

This second link shows whereabouts in New Zealand the canoes that brought the Maori first landed. Note the interesting preponderance of landing places on the east coast from a direction where there is very little land for thousands of miles.
