when the discussion with roger came up and the Cs answered that possibly Einstein had come up with a GUT and the connection of EM and gravity
i am remind of an OLD conspiracy involving Maxwell and his equations... his original designs were 20 equations, but he edited the book after pressure to simplify it, and reduced it to 4, due to the fact they could not accept what 20 equations represent sort of like Einsteins cosmological constant.. the 20 equations could be a GUT

i didnt intend to imply that tom rearden had in any way produced the thought.. i had seen a copy of the first edition, so long ago i dont even remember... what stuck with me was the fact that his work was edited, by someone who had no inkling of the full potential of his work... it was mentioned in a few of the quantum physics books i had read as a child as well.. the only thing i did not understand was valence nomenclature.. didnt til high school chemistry
