they Die so we may Live

a few years ago I was enraged at ludicrous t-shirt ("he died so we may/could live") that I made my own. feel free to modify and use for your own.

also before I knew any better. When people wanted a prayer/grace, I would raise my hand and give a version of:

Thank you for all the begins that died,
farmers that labored,
factory workers,
persons who bought and
prepared this food...
(depending on menu I would say cows, farmers etc..)
would say it like any other prayer and wait for their reaction.

I don't do that anymore or hang around people that are religious.
If I'm in that situation, I still volunteer but use non-confrontational prayers/sayings

The Eagles (hand movements)
the Eagles give thanks for the mountains
(like you are flying) (together up over your head)

the Fish give thanks for the sea
(hands together in front like a fish) (hands towards left moving like waves)

We give thanks for our blessings
(cup hands, move them up towards sky)

For the Food We Eat (tune: "Kum Ba Yah")
For the food we eat, we thank you.
For the friends we meet, kind and true.
For the fun we share, all day through.
we thank you, we thank you.

or I keep my mouth shut and bear it. Still angry at myself for being stupid falling for that one of these days I'll forgive myself.

And... What about us not being top of the food chain???

That's more than likely a whole other subject, yes?

I have sketches of not being the top of the food chain too somewhere
and yes, that is whole new subject! (one that took me a while to grasp)

I have many more that I have re-written.
Still a girl scout leader / adult trainer.
I make sure to tell the new leaders that they can't push their religion
of course in a nice business like way, its in the rule books
