Trace Adkins song "Arlington"

I didn't like what was on NPR so I switched around a few stations and decided to get my Country Music fix. I heard this song which is one of the saddest songs I have ever heard as well as one of the most infuriating.

The title of the song is "Arlington".
I never thought that this is where I'd settle down.
I thought I'd die an old man back in my hometown.
They gave me this plot of land,
Me and some other men, for a job well done.

There's a big White House sits on a hill just up the road.
The man inside, he cried the day they brought me home.
They folded up a flag and told my Mom and Dad:
"We're proud of your son."

And I'm proud to be on this peaceful piece of property.
I'm on sacred ground and I'm in the best of company.
I'm thankful for those thankful for the things I've done.
I can rest in peace;
I'm one of the chosen ones:

I made it to Arlington.

I remember Daddy brought me here when I was eight.
We searched all day to find out where my grand-dad lay.
And when we finally found that cross,
He said: "Son, this is what it cost to keep us free."

Now here I am, a thousand stones away from him.
He recognized me on the first day I came in.
And it gave me a chill when he clicked his heels,
And saluted me.

And I'm proud to be on this peaceful piece of property.
I'm on sacred ground and I'm in the best of company.
I'm thankful for those thankful for the things I've done.
I can rest in peace;
I'm one of the chosen ones:
I made it to Arlington.

And everytime I hear twenty-one guns,
I know they brought another hero home to us.

And I'm proud to be on this peaceful piece of property.
I'm on sacred ground and I'm in the best of company.
We're thankful for those thankful for the things we've done.
We can rest in peace;
'Cause we are the chosen ones:
We made it to Arlington.

Yeah, dust to dust,
Don't cry for us:
We made it to Arlington.
Yeah Trace, it is good you made it Arlington except for the following:

1) If by the big white house you mean the big White House, trust me, nobody inside that building is crying for you.
2) You are not a hero for going over to Iraq and getting yourself killed. You are a sucker for a criminal gang.
3) Your death was not for the cost of freedom, it was for the exploitation of resources. Nobody was threatening us from Iraq, so attacking them does not increase our freedom. If you choose to believe the Party Line, then perhaps you should have searched the caves in Afganistan for His Monsterness Underneath the Bedness: OBL for that is the only place where one might even make a case for it. [Of course this ignores the obvious about 9/11 being run by "ourselves".]

Sorry Trace. Making it to Arlington is not the sign of success, it is the sign of failure. Failure to be there for the people in your life who really need you, failure to stand up and say "No, I won't support your criminal war", failure to see and smell the huge stinking carcas laying right in front of you.

I'm not thankful for what you have done, I'm terribly sorry and very very angry.
