Unusual Animal Print

Took a couple pictures of an unusual foot print made by what, i am not sure.

Looking for any examples that may have come close to what i had discovered (on google pics https://www.google.fr/search?q=mothman+prints&biw=1424&bih=888&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwic-J-JxLTMAhWJJsAKHeaPB3kQsAQIJw#tbm=isch&q=mothman+foot+prints) did not produce much with only a few examples.

The print was about the size of my closed fist. About 3 inches (wide) x 3 inches (in length), and extremely small compared with other examples of a similar nature. Like what ever it is was perhaps very young for such a small (sibling?) print.

I found them (about 6 or 7), after a light snow fall that day at about dusk. And the date was on 2-15-16 @ 19:03 at 48 sec.s. back in the forest on the fire trail.

I also could not discern its walking gate, because (as one can see in the second frame), local residents vehicles had erased any evidence, having been traveled on that day and or evening. So it was just a straight line of prints. One in front of the other.

Also with such a light dusting of snow it was not possible too determine its possible weight as a thicker snow base may have provided.

Maybe i should walk my neighbors bloodhound on the next jaunt????????????????

The website FRONTIERS OF ZOOLOGY had these examples that came close too a 3 toed clawed foot.

This is a diiagram showing how the usual carnivorous dinosaurs walked up on their toes but some of them could walk flat-footed. The flat-footed version is very close to the reported Reptoid tracks worldwide.

“I am not used to seeing the kind of tracks in my back yard like the samples I’m attaching here. Any ideas? Looks BIG. Gulp.”

Also on the web.

Any thoughts?

Hello c.a., I had a look at those and it reminded me of a large bird such as the ostrich, or turkey.
anyway here's another one I found, just down the page a bit:

I don't know where you're at in the world, but the second batch of pics look a lot like alligator prints.

Be careful out there!

I agree with MusicaMan, but what would a turkey or ostrich be doing in an area that snowed - or an alligator?

That's what I also thought. A print of a bird, something like a duck maybe, though ducks mostly have different footprints. But perhaps because of melting it distorted the print a bit. Here are some examples:

I don't know much about gait patterns of reptiles and birds. If this was a human footprint, I'd call it a stamp or fake because it is too perfect. Usually when the foot is lifted or weight rolled/passed over, there will be a bit of rub. The skin lines will smudge some depending on direction of force. Interesting forms, though.
To be clear, I am referring to that one pictured footprint in dirt/sand.

Apologies for such a late response.

Currently i occupy two locations during the year. One occupancy is for business still having to deal with untied states which is where my visa originates at this time.

The other one is here in France, very close to the border Spain within the Hautes-Pyrénées (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hautes-Pyr%C3%A9n%C3%A9es#/media/File:Hautes_Pyrenees_topographic_map-fr.svg) mountains range, (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyrenees#/media/File:Pyrenees_topographic_map-en.svg).

So no ostriches but some wild turkeys do habituate in flocks in the general vicinity. But those tracks that i came upon IMHO just don't fit.

And thanks for your concern. It can be a wee bit intimidating moving around free grazing herds of live stocks especially with off spring present.

So i tread lightly, and respectfully within there domain. Avoiding any emotion of fear and maintaining a sense calm. Always giving them leeway.

It is the wild bores that can be the most aggressive and combative if they sense a territory threat to to feeding grounds, and or off spring.

And they get very big here with razor sharp teeth with powerful jaw crushing capbalitys. So if i see them from a distance i will reroute and detour for my own safety, (no ifs, ands, or buts).

The duck may have some merit and does show a slight resemblance..That could explain that only a few tacks were found then the tracks seemed to have vanished, a duck could of just flew off, and or was taken via predators

People do raise ducks here for consumption. Maybe (if it was a duck), it was an escapee with a possible foot deformation (mutation).

There was a spike of radioactive fallout here just after the meltdown of the Fukushima disaster in 2011.

I witnessed various plants took on taller growth patterns and some mutations. Which never happened again since 2012.

One can understand this would effected the food chain possibly producing an unhealthy Eco system of the lower food chain that would or could have been genetically caustic to free range animals, especially ducks left to feed or roam freely.

They love snails as well any ground hugging insects.

But i will add that in the last 7 years since i have been here, i have never seen ducks on this trail nor tracks.

But anything is possible given the strange days that we live in.

Also referenced this page with no results to prints that i digitally photographed with a flash.

As i was doing some investigation into this 3 toe enigma with other stories from people whom have come across some weird foot prints as well.

'Simply a mystery' — Strange tracks in snow near Curtis
By PETER SALTER / Lincoln Journal Star Jan 29, 2015

She hadn’t walked the east side of the golf course in Curtis for a couple of weeks — too cold, too much snow -- but something else had.

And earlier this month, when Sharon Jorgensen and her border collie reached the cart path that climbs through the trees from the third fairway, she found the tracks that the something else had left behind.

They were big. She dropped her glove alongside one and snapped a photo; the four-toed footprint was half again as large.

They were far between. She estimated the distance between them at nearly 6 feet, an Olympic-sprint stride.

They were alone. The snow surrounding them was untouched, unblemished.

“There were no other feet prints out there but mine and this big guy,” Jorgensen said. “The snow tells the story. What it is, I don’t know.”

In the two weeks since she found the footprints, she’s heard plenty of possible explanations. A mountain lion, hopping. An owl, flopping. A turkey.

Or a hoax.

But who would fake it way out there? On the edge of the rough nearly a half-mile from the clubhouse, in a small town south of North Platte, in the heart of winter?

“This isn’t a joke,” she said. “This is the middle of nowhere. If you were going to make a joke, you’d put them where someone was going to find them. This isn’t that place.”

She and Babe walk nearly every morning as soon as the sun rises, down the hill from home and into the nine-hole Arrowhead Meadows Golf Course along Medicine Creek.

Jorgensen is not the village crazy. She worked the farm with her husband, Richard, about 10 miles south of Curtis until a year ago, when they moved to town and their kids took over.

The 63-year-old has been a church leader, a school board member.

“I think I’ve served on every board in town, so I’m not a nut,” she said. “Everybody in town knows who I am.”

After finding the footprints that morning, she called Babe over to investigate. The dog wasn’t impressed or interested. The tracks seemed to emerge from the trees and then return to their cover, but Jorgensen wasn’t about to follow.

So she took pictures and called her daughter, and word soon got to golf course superintendent Eric Senff.

“I was actually home that morning when Sharon sent me the pictures,” he said. “I went out there and looked at them.”

The 30-year-old has run the golf course for a half-dozen years, but until he followed the tracks from the third to the fourth, he’d never encountered anything out of the ordinary.

“As big as they were and as long as the strides were, I’ve never seen anything like it.”

He showed them to a biologist, who said they could have been made by a jackrabbit, but Senff had never seen one on the course. He remembered a farmer nearby had reported seeing a black bear a year or so ago, but that didn’t fit. And he heard another farmer in the area raises emus, but he looked at pictures of their tracks online, and they weren’t quite right, either.

Senff doesn’t believe in bigfoot or sasquatch. He’s stumped.

“I just have no idea.”

Jorgensen talked with a Frontier County deputy and a Game and Parks employee, she said, but they offered no answers. She also heard from a Nebraska-based bigfoot investigator, who asked her to look for trees pulled down into arches or tipi-type shapes -- telltale signs of sasquatch.

Jorgensen walked the woods but didn’t find any.

The investigator suggested she keep her dog leashed for her safety, but Jorgensen walks Arrowhead Meadows so Babe can run free.

The investigator also told her to talk to whatever made the prints, and Jorgensen does. She says: I intend to leave you alone. So please, leave my dog alone.

And in the past two weeks, with the tracks disappearing in the snowmelt, she hasn’t felt threatened.

She hasn’t seen any more signs.

“But I’m not going to tell you I don’t watch the trees more than I used to. Because I do.”

You know i thought of that same possibility as well. Some guy having some fun i thought in passing. As there were a few boot prints down line from those that you have mentioned.

People could do some strange things for kicks i guess.
